Got a Photo You Love? Get it on Your Mats!

Get a photo you love on your mats at the click of a button! Maybe a photo of the kids, your dog or your favourite holiday? You can now get it printed on your mats.

Get a photo you love on your mats and stand out from the crowd! One of the more recent products to become available is our Personalised Image Mats and Personalised Image Heel pads. We’ve had some great images sent in from customers. Everything from family days out at the beach to lazy days in the garden with the dogs. We’ve loved every one of them!

Plus it’s available on both car mats and van mats.

So how does it all work you ask?

The hardest part we find is choosing the right image. What will it be? Well, why not have a look through your camera roll and Facebook for some inspiration? Seriously, this is the hardest part of this whole thing!

Once you’ve chosen your image (and all the hard work is finally over), place your order as normal. Make sure you select the Personalised Image from either the Quality or Heelpad drop down menu. Before entering any card details, a screen will appear that prompts you to attach the image you’ve chosen to your order.*

Once we’ve got your order, our team here will resize the image to fit. They then send you a preview of how your mats will look as Personalised Image mats. Or maybe you chose a set of mats with a Personalised Image Heel pad. You’ll receive an e-mail to let you know your preview is ready and then simply approve or provide feedback to our team. You can make any changes at this point.

When we’re ready to go, we use a process called ‘dye-sublimation’.

Dye-sublimation is when the image is printed onto transfer paper and then heat pressed at 190 degrees. This traps and binds the ink directly on to the carpet fibres. Once the mat has then cooled, the ink won’t run (even if you do get a bit of water on there!).

That’s all well and good but… what do they actually look like?

Well really they can look like just about anything – that’s all down to you!

That’s the great thing about these mats, each set is different! How likely is it that someone else is going to have the exact same mats as you? Not very (unless you share your photos or buy a matching set for your partner or best friend).

But here are some examples of full sets we’ve made for some of our customers already…

As you can see, they are all really different. It is like each customer has put a piece of their personality on the mats. So why not do the same? Check out our range of car mats and van mats and let us add that extra personal touch to your interior.

Unsure about having a full mat? No problem! You can always opt for just your heelpad instead.

Already bought a set of Personalised Image Mats or mats with a Personalised Image Heelpad? Send them in! You may get featured in an upcoming post.

*Please note that we are unable to print copyrighted material – for example logos owned by a company or someone other than yourself. High-res images are preferred but if your image is too small we’ll be back in touch to help resolve the issue for you.

We can all agree if you’ve ever had pets, sports equipment or even garden supplies in the boot of your car, it quickly becomes dirty, or even damaged, and gets difficult to manage on a daily basis.

Car boot liners serve as a barrier against wear and tear, offering a simple cleaning solution to keep your car’s interior in top condition.

Maintaining your boot liner is a simple yet effective way to keep your car’s interior in excellent shape. Whether you’re carrying pets, hauling sports gear, or tackling a weekend DIY project, your car boot sees a lot of action and inevitably this brings dirt, moisture, and wear.

To ensure your boot liner continues doing its job, regular cleaning and care are essential. In this guide, we’ll explore why it’s important to maintain your car boot liner, how to clean your liner properly, and how to maximise its lifespan.

Skip to the good bit:

Why clean your car boot liner?

Your boot liner is designed to protect your car’s interior, being your first line of defence against everyday messes. Keeping it clean ensures it stays effective long-term, even when it sees heavy usage.

Whether you use your boot to carry wet or dirty items like bikes, fishing gear, gardening tools, or pet supplies, your liner will naturally accumulate dirt and moisture over time. Regular cleaning not only keeps things looking tidy but also prevents unpleasant odours and mould from developing.
Here’s why you should regularly clean your boot liner:

Keeping your boot liner clean doesn’t need to be a chore. With regular upkeep, you’ll extend its lifespan and keep your vehicle looking and smelling fresh.

Our boot liners are designed to be super easy to fit and clean, unlike cleaning your boot without one, which can be a difficult task!

Types of Boot Liners

There are many types of boot liners available, with different types of fittings and materials – and the way you clean them can vary depending on the type you have.

Rubber Boot Liners

Rubber liners are designed for heavy-duty use, being the most durable and low-maintenance option. You can safely follow the Everyday Cleaning and Deeper Cleaning steps from this guide, and they respond well to a more vigorous clean.

Simply shake out or vacuum loose dirt, then wipe or hose down the liner with warm water and mild detergent.

Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasives, as these can cause the surface to dry out and crack over time.

PVC Boot Liners

PVC liners are lightweight, flexible, and waterproof, making them easy to clean using the steps below. Both the Everyday Cleaning and Deeper Cleaning methods apply, however please note that it’s best to stick to mild detergents and non-abrasive cloths to prevent dulling the finish.

Wipe clean with a damp cloth or sponge, and for stubborn stains, use a diluted soap solution rather than any solvent-based cleaner.

Carpet Boot Liners

Carpet-style liners offer a plush finish but need gentler care. The Everyday Cleaning steps, including vacuuming, brushing, and spot cleaning, are perfect for this material, but avoid soaking or hosing down your carpet liner as it can hold moisture and develop odours.

If your liner is heavily soiled, use a mild detergent solution and a soft brush to lift stains, then blot dry with a clean towel.

Quilted Boot Liners

Quilted liners are often made from a padded, waterproof fabric to provide a luxury look and great protection. Quilted boot liners are generally easy to clean and can often handle the full cleaning routine outlined below.

For everyday cleaning, you can vacuum and wipe down your quilted liner with a damp lint-free cloth and mild detergent.

For deeper cleaning, many quilted liners are machine washable, but it’s important to check the manufacturer’s care label first as some may require hand washing or spot cleaning instead.

Quick Tip!

Regularly remove your car boot liner to shake it out and remove any excess dirt and dust that may be sitting on its surface.

For maximum protection and optimum upkeep, vacuum your boot liner weekly to avoid dirt from accumulating and stains from settling.

Things to consider before cleaning

Before cleaning your boot liner, there are a few things to consider before starting:

How to clean your boot liner

How you clean your boot liner will depend on the material of your boot liner, and how much time you have to commit to it. Whether you’re cleaning your boot liner quickly to keep it fresh or are opting for a deep clean, we have a simple, easy-to-follow guide for each.

What you’ll need to get started

Optional extras:

Everyday Cleaning

Grab your dustpan and brush, alongside a lint-free cloth.

Simply leave any mud to dry and use the brush to loosen any dirt. Sweep it up, along with any pet hairs and grit, or grab a vacuum cleaner and repeat. Make sure you take care to sweep or vacuum any crevices and pockets.

Dampen your cloth with lukewarm water and give your liner a wipe down to remove any deeper mud and dirt. Now let the boot liner air dry.

Quick Tip!

Whilst you’re cleaning your boot liner, don’t forget your car mats too! Check out our car mats cleaning guide for simple steps to keep them looking fresh.

Deeper Cleaning

First, grab your dustpan and brush. Use the brush to loosen any surface-level dried mud or dirt. Sweep this up, removing excess debris from your boot liner.

Then, use a handheld vacuum or smaller vacuum attachment to vacuum the liner clean.

Now that the liner is free from dirt and debris, dampen a lint-free cloth with lukewarm water to wipe your liner clean.

For stubborn stains or spills, use a mild detergent mixed with water. Apply to the stained area and gently scrub with a soft brush or cloth.

Alternatively, a standard kitchen or bathroom cleaning spray can work well on more difficult stains.

Once you are satisfied that the liner is free from stains and dirt, give it a final once-over with your vacuum to ensure your liner is entirely free of any dust or fibres.

Let the liner air dry completely in a well-ventilated room or open area.

Pet Hair Removal

Use a dustpan and brush to brush away any pet hairs or dirt that has settled on the surface of your boot liner. Leave wet mud to dry before brushing to remove.

If your boot liner is of a quilted or carpet material, use a rubber squeegee or pet hair removal brush to detach the pet hair from the fibres of the liner and gather the hair into piles. Then use a strong vacuum to collect the hair. Repeat this process until your liner is free of fur.

A sticky lint roller can also work particularly well to remove stubborn pet hairs from your liner, whether it’s carpet, quilted or heavy duty.

What not to do when cleaning your car boot liner

Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that may damage the carpet fibres.

Check your boot liner’s manufacturer guidelines, if your liner is not machine washable, steer clear of washing your boot liner in the washing machine to avoid colour fading and damage to the bindings.

If your boot liner is machine washable, like ours at MTO, first vacuum any loose dirt and debris from the liner, then wash on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, avoiding the use of fabric softener.

Boot Liner Maintenance FAQs

Can you put boot liners in the washing machine?

Check the manufacturer’s guidelines. Some boot liners are machine washable, like ours, making them convenient and easy to clean. Others may not be suitable for machine washing – putting these boot liners in the washing machine can damage the shape and material of the liner.

What soap should I use to clean my boot liner?

To clean your car boot liner, mix a small amount of mild detergent with water to create a gentle cleaning solution. Avoid harsh detergents such as bleach as these can fade the colour and damage the bindings within your boot liner.

How often should I clean my boot liner?

You should aim to clean your car boot liner monthly, as part of a regular car cleaning schedule. It is also recommended to clean your car boot liner after any mess or spillage in order to prevent lasting damage and stains.

Did you know, your car mats are the often the dirtiest part of your vehicle?

Without regular cleaning, they can harbour bacteria, cause bad odours, and even start to rot.

Cleaning your car on a regular (ideally monthly) basis not only protects your car’s interior and value, but also ensures your car stays hygienic and odour-free.

The method you use to clean your car mats will differ depending on whether they are carpet or rubber mats, lucky for you we’ve created a handy guide to help explain how to clean both carpet car mats and rubber car mats.

Skip to the good bit:

Why should you clean your car mats?

Just a quick FYI in case our introduction didn’t convince you, there are actually several other important reasons to keep your car clean, which may surprise you.

They’re dirtier than you think

Besides the obvious removal of dirt, mud and debris, and therefore prevention of damage to your car’s interior, you’ll be shocked to know that Nottingham Trent University researchers found that E.coli, the food poisoning causing germ, existed among the nasty bacteria that builds up in your cars mats.

You might save on fuel

A study by MythBusters, found that a cleaner car achieves more miles per gallon due to its reduced weight and drag. In times where fuel prices are constantly on the rise, increasing from 132 ppl in May of 2025 to 134.24 ppl in August 2025, the better fuel consumption is a real reason to keep your car polished. Not only would you save money due to better fuel consumption when keeping your car clean but will also save money on car mat replacements by prolonging their life through cleaning.

They can worsen allergies

If you or anyone you know is an allergy sufferer, cleaning your car mats becomes even more important. Removing dust, pollen, pet hairs and other allergens is crucial for ensuring a more comfortable, healthier in-car experience for those who suffer from allergies.

It could make all the difference

If that wasn’t enough to convince you, a study by Intelligent Car Leasing found that drivers with clean cars are actually involved in fewer car accidents than those with messier, dirtier cars.

Alongside this, keeping your car clean in general means a clearer mind, improved comfort for you and your passengers, as well as an improved, slick, car appearance.

What you need to do before cleaning your car mats

Cleaning your car mats is actually a very simple process, but before you get started, here are a few things you’ll need to do before you get started.

Carpet mats: It is not recommended to clean your carpet car mats in the washing machine as it can damage fibres or backing. The heat damages the backing, warping it, whilst the spin cycle roughens and destroys the edges.

Rubber mats: Do not wash rubber car mats in the washing machine. The weight and imbalance of the rubber mats risks breaking the washing machine.

What soap should I use to clean my car mats?

For carpet mats, use a car carpet cleaner or mild detergent to clean the mat. Mix warm water with car carpet cleaner or mild detergent and then scrub the mats with a brush in circular motions.

For rubber mats, car shampoo or dish soap diluted in water works well.

How often should I clean my car mats?

How do I get rid of bad smells in car mats?

The most effective technique for getting rid of bad smells in car mats is to sprinkle baking soda, let it sit for 15 minutes for a quick refresh, or overnight for best results, then vacuum.

For stubborn odours, use an enzyme cleaner. Spray the enzyme cleaner onto the affected sections of the car mat, saturating the area. Allow the cleaner to work for at least a few hours, after which, blot the area clean with an absorbent cloth and then allow the car mats to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area.

Can I pressure wash my rubber car mats?

Yes, you can pressure wash your rubber mats. However, avoid using high pressure too close to the mat, as this may damage the mat surface.

How do I stop my mats from slipping after cleaning?

In order to stop your mats from slipping after cleaning, ensure they are fully dry and do not have any residual water present.

Do You ACTUALLY Need Car Mats? We Think So!

Have you ever found yourself standing in a car showroom negotiating over the inclusion of car mats? It might have led you to wonder what all the fuss is about and whether you really need them in the first place. In this article, we take a look at the role of the humble car mat and what its benefits are to help you decide whether you really need them.

What is a car mat?

A car mat is usually located in the footwell of every seat in a car or van. Often, these are made from carpet but there are also rubber versions for those who need a more durable and hard-wearing option.

They are put in place because the spot on the floor where you rest your feet can be subject to a lot of wear and tear, which could lead to damage and holes in the carpets of your car. The car mats are designed to take a lot of the punishment that we put them through, ensuring that your car is kept in good condition.

Stains & dirt

You might take your shoes off when you walk into your house, but your car does not get the same sort of treatment, which means it can be exposed to all kinds of dirt, mud and moisture.

When this is added to the drinks and the crumbs that are spilt and the accidents that pets can have, it is clear that the carpets in your car are put through a lot. Your car mat is there to provide a protective barrier between the dirt and debris and the floor of your car to avoid them becoming irreparably damaged.

Not only can a car mat be removed for much easier cleaning, it can also be replaced if it has been subjected to too much, but this is not an option that is available when it comes to the floor of your vehicle.

Corrosion

Dirt can be unsightly, but it can have a more serious effect as well. Salt from the roads can easily be brought into your car on your shoes, and when this comes into contact with water from snow and rain, it can become corrosive. This will start to show as white stains on the carpet of your car, and the damage this does can be irreversible. Car mats can provide another layer of protection against this corrosion, and can prevent the white stains from forming permanently in the interior of your car.

Mould and mildew

Mould and mildew are other problems that can form when moisture, dirt and debris builds up in the carpets of your car. This can be very damaging to the carpets of your car, and if left unchecked, it can also be damaging to your health. Putting good quality car mats in place can protect against this and prevent the bad odours and problems that can occur as a result.

Safety

It might seem as though car mats are just there to make your car look good, but they can also play a role in your safety too. As carpet begins to wear, it can fray or expose the metal underneath, and this can be very dangerous. It can mean that your foot can slip leading to trips and falls, and in the case of the driver, it could result in your foot becoming caught or slipping off the pedal, which can result in an accident.

By putting car mats in place, you can avoid this wear and tear by putting something more durable in the way. These car mats can also be replaced when they start to show signs of wear, so you can be sure that you will always be safe.

Second hand value

Many of us will be looking to sell our cars at some point, and you will want to achieve the best possible value for it when you do. That means that you need to take good care of it during the time that you own it.

Whilst many people will think this refers to keeping the paintwork clean and servicing the vehicle regularly, it also means looking after the interior of the vehicle too.

Your car mats play a significant role in this as they protect against much of the damage that can be inflicted on your car over the years. By keeping dirt and damage at bay, you can present your car in a much better condition and therefore get a healthier sale price for it.

Personalisation

We pay a lot of attention to the way the exterior of our cars look and what this can say about us, but we seem to forget the interior. We can spend more time looking at the inside of our cars than the outside, and our car mats can play a part in making them feel a lot more like home.

These mats come in a variety of styles, meaning that you can not only choose the quality of the carpet beneath your feet, but also the way that it looks. Many offer a choice of coloured trims, and you may even have the option to have your name, business or model of your car embroidered onto your mats.

For a completely unique feel, you can even have images printed onto your car mats, meaning you can include everything from a favourite pet to a business logo. This is a great way to personalise the interior of your car in a way that will not impact on its value, so that you can make it feel as unique as you are.

Your car mats are probably not something you have given a great deal of thought to, but they can be an essential part of the interior of your car. By ensuring you have good quality, durable car mats in place, you can protect your car and the people in it, ensuring that it has a longer life, achieves a higher resale value and provides a better travelling experience.

How to Get Your Car Ready for Warmer Weather

The summer is almost upon us, so it is time to start planning road trips, days out with the family or just a sweaty commute to work. We change our wardrobes and we reorganise our routines, but we don’t always pay attention to what our cars need.

The warmer weather means that we need to think differently about the way in which we travel, so here are a few top tips to get your car ready for the summer.

Dress to impress

No matter what we do, it is very easy to become sweaty when sat in a car seat for a long time. Adding a car seat cover can help to make your journey more comfortable, as it can mean that you are sitting on a more breathable fabric. It also means that your seats are protected from sweat stains, not to mention the damage caused by kids with ice creams or over excited pets.

Car seat covers come in a variety of styles and colours, so you can choose something that is perfectly suited to your car. When it gets dirty, it is easy to simply take off and wash, helping to preserve the condition of your car and saving you back breaking work trying to scrub the seats clean.

Air conditioning

Your air conditioning can be a life saver when stuck in a traffic jam on a hot day. It is therefore important to make sure that it is in good working order and topped up so that it can help to keep you cool and comfortable all through the summer.

Sunshades

Many drivers choose to add sunshades to their cars to help keep the heat of the sun at bay. These tend to be most popular for those who have children or pets in the back seat, in order to protect them from the direct glare of the sun, but they can also be useful whenever your car is parked up, as they can help to reduce the build up of heat in a stationary vehicle.

Car health

The better weather makes us more inclined to get out on the road for day trips and holidays, so it is important to give your car a health check before you do. Make sure that your tyres are fully inflated and have the legal tread depths, check your windscreen wipers are working and look at the levels of your oil, water, coolant and screen wash. You should also check your battery and brakes to help avoid any breakdowns while you are out and about.

Pet beds

We love to take our pets out with us on a nice day, but this is not always as easy as it sounds. Fitting a pet bed to your car can make the journey easier and more comfortable for both your animals and the humans in the car. These offer padding and comfort for your pet to help make the trip less stressful, and it can help to protect your seats or your boots from claw marks, pet hair and any little accidents that might occur.

Emergency kits

It is best to be prepared for all eventualities, so you need to make sure that you have kits in your car that can help you deal with any emergencies that might occur. A first aid kit is essential for when you are in the car, as well as any activities that you might be doing. Ensure it has essential thinks like plasters, bandages and antiseptic cream, as well as creams for bites and stings, painkillers and sunscreen to make sure that you are covered for most mishaps.

You also need to think about what you will need in the event of a breakdown. You should ensure that you have a spare tyre or inflation kit, and emergency sign and a fire extinguisher. It might also be worth getting some jump leads and tow rope. As you never know how long you might be stuck somewhere, a stock of blankets, a torch and some drinks and snacks may prove to be essential.

Breakdown cover

If you are venturing further afield than normal, then you are increasing the risk of a problem, so make sure that you have adequate breakdown cover in place. Read the small print to check what they will do for you at the side of the road and where they are likely to tow you to in order to make sure that you have the right cover for your situation.

Boot liners

Travelling in the summer means loading the boot up with all kinds of things. It might be your clubs for a day at the golf course, or a pushchair, a picnic and some buckets and spades for a family day at the beach. Maybe you will be loaded up with suitcases, or you have walking boots and umbrellas for a trip into the countryside.

All through the summer we throw things into the boot without a second thought, but this can cause a lot of damage in the form of scratches, dirt, moisture and mould. Fitting a boot liner can protect your car against much of this, and it is easy to remove and wash when you need to, meaning that your car is ready for whatever adventures you want to take it on.

Battery power

It is important that you have a way of providing more charge for your devices so make sure you have the right cables on hand to connect them to your car or have a separate battery pack on hand. This can not only ensure you have the right tunes for your trip and keep the kids entertained, but it can also make sure that your sat nav has all the power it needs.

The summer is the perfect time to get out on the open road, so it is important that you spent a little bit of time ensuring that your car is fully prepared. This means you can all travel in style, comfort and convenience wherever you go.

It has felt like a long winter but there are finally signs that summer is on its way. That can conjure up images of road trips, days at the beach and great adventures, so it is important to make sure that your car is as ready for them as you are. Here, we’ve put together the must-have list of car essentials that will help to make your summer perfect.

Air conditioning

There is nothing worse than being stuck in a stuffy car on a hot day, especially when you are not able to open the windows. That is why it is important to get your air conditioning system checked and re-gassed if necessary to help keep your car cool and comfortable no matter what the temperature reaches outside.

Anti Slip Mats

A day trip or a holiday usually means that you will be piling the boot of your car high with bags, toys and equipment that can slide around all over the place, causing damage to your belongings and your car. Laying an anti-slip mat in the boot can help to tackle this problem as it can protect your boot and your things and is easily washable too.

Sun shades

Sun shades are a great way to protect your car from the direct rays of the sun. While you are travelling, they can be useful for shading small children or even your pets and keeping them comfortable in the back of the car. They can even be handy when you are not on the move, as they can keep the sun out of the car when you are parked, ensuring it is not too stifling when you return to it.

Pet beds

Often, a day out in the summer might involve the beach, a walk through the woods or exploring the countryside, and it is great to take your dog along with you. Putting a specially made bed into your car ensures a better journey for everyone. These padded beds help to keep your dog comfortable in the car, and it can help to protect the interior of the vehicle from scratches, muddy paws and little accidents.

Sat nav

Going on an adventure can be terrific fun, but you don’t want half of that time to be spent aimlessly driving down never-ending roads and arguing about which direction to take. Make sure that you have a sat nav on hand and fully updated to keep your journey time to a minimum and reduce the arguments so that you can spend more time enjoying yourself.

Car mats

When you are in and out of the car doing different things, you will bring a lot of dirt, debris and moisture in with you. Whether you are covered in sand, muddy from hiking or soaked through thanks to the good old British weather, you are likely to drag all of it into the car.

This can lead to a build up of things like mould, mildew, dirt and some pretty horrible smells if you are not careful. Investing in some good quality car mats can help to protect the carpets in your car from all of this mess, and they are easy to remove and wash when you need to, ensuring that your car stays fresh and clean throughout the summer.

Travel pillows

We all know someone who falls asleep in the car before you have even left your own driveway. Sometimes, trips during the summer can be long, and there are likely to be a few naps along the way. Having some travel pillows in the car can make that little snooze much more comfortable, and leave passengers refreshed and ready to take their turn at the wheel.

First aid kit

Adventures are all good fun until someone hurts themselves, so it is a good idea to have a first aid kit on hand to deal with all those little mishaps. Make sure there are plasters, bandages and antiseptic cream for cuts and scrapes, as well as bite cream, sunscreen, insect repellent, painkillers and allergy medication to cover all eventualities.

Battery pack

We are all reliant on our mobile phones these days, so make sure you have a fully charged battery pack in the car that can charge your phone if you need it. Many of us need our phones for navigation purposes, to play music, access tickets or call for help in an emergency, so it is important to make sure that you don’t get caught short.

Car fridge

There is nothing better than a cold drink on a hot day, so why not think about including a car fridge on your travels? They can plug into your car and can keep your drinks and sandwiches cool all day long.

Entertainment

Taking the kids on a long journey can be challenging sometimes, and every parent dreads the cries of “are we nearly there yet” when they have only been on the road for ten minutes. It is therefore important to pack as many forms of entertainment as possible.

Holders can be fitted to the front seats to accommodate most tablets, allowing them to watch videos whilst still looking straight ahead (just don’t forget to pack their headphones too). There are also lots of travel versions of some of the most popular board games that can be a really good way to pass the time.

Travel sickness essentials

Long journeys can make people start to feel unwell, especially small children. Having travel sickness medication on board can be useful, as well as the travel wristbands. You should also try and make sure there are bags, towels and some bottles of water just in case the worst does happen.

Get your car fully stocked now, and you will be in for an amazing summer getting out and about and exploring all of the things that the UK has to offer, safe in the knowledge your journey will be comfortable, safe and fun for all the family, including the family pet.

Keep your car summer ready

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping your car clean, comfortable and ready to tackle the road. Simple interior additions like car mats, boot liners and seat covers can make a real difference when it comes to dealing with sand, mud or the occasional spill, helping you enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Wherever you’re headed, having the right essentials in place means you can focus on making the most of the warmer months.

10 Accessories You ABSOLUTELY Need for Your Camper

The camper is a common sight on the roads of the UK, especially during the summer. We love them as they allow us to have our home away from home. It couldn’t be easier to simply pack a few things and drive to anywhere that takes our fancy, meaning that there are some terrific adventures to be had.

In this article, we have put together a list of our favourite things that your camper absolutely should not be without.

1. Portable outdoor shower

Depending on the model of camper that you have or where you stay, getting clean and showered is not always an option, so it is good to have something on hand that allows you to freshen up, no matter where you might be. A portable outdoor shower can be easily hooked up, and some options are even solar powered to make sure that the water is a comfortable temperature.

2. Blinds

It is great to be out in the middle of nature, but there are times when you do not want nature to intrude, particularly at 5am. That is why installing thermal blinds can be essential. They can not only block out the sun at unwanted times of the day, but they can either keep heat in on a cool night or reflect it back out in the middle of the day. They are a simple but effective addition to your camper that can make it much more comfortable and private with very little effort.

3. Lighting

Depending on where you set up camp for the night, you may not be somewhere that is very well lit, and so it is important to have your own lighting available if you need it. Battery operated lamps are easy to use and set up and can provide you with plenty of light whether you are relaxing outside or trying to find your way too or from the camper. It not only creates a more pleasant atmosphere, but it can also make things feel a little safer too.

4. Stretch carpet

You will want your camper to feel comfortable at all times, so look at fitting some stretch carpet, to giver you a great feel underfoot. These rolls of carpet are easy to cut to the right size and shape and are simply fixed into place using spray glue. As the name suggests, it is designed to stretch, making it easy to fit and minimising the risk of there being any wrinkles. These carpets not only make the camper look good, but they can also help to retain warmth and minimise noise.

5. Outdoor furniture

Campers are not huge inside, so having some outdoor furniture that can easily fold away means that you can easily extend your living space. Having a picnic set or loungers that you can put outside gives you another place to put your feet up or have dinner, and you can take in the scenery at the same time.

6. Barbecue

There is nothing better than grilling some sausages and steaks outdoors when you are on holiday, so remember to take a barbecue with you. It can give you more dining options and is always good fun. There are portable gas and charcoal barbecues to choose from, so you can pick something to suit your cooking style. If you set up camp in a campsite or caravan park, it is important to make sure that you are familiar with their rules for barbecuing. You should also be careful when you are out in the wild, as stray embers can very quickly start fires in a dry environment, so make sure that you are responsible, be aware of any warnings, and clear everything away safely.

7. Hammock

The best bit about getting away in a camper is having the freedom to do as much or as little as you like, which is why we think everyone should have a hammock. Snooze in the sun, catch up on a good book and relax in the midst of nature whilst gently swaying from side to side. What could be better?

8. WiFi booster

You might want a camper holiday so that you can get away from it all, but these days it can be hard to survive without WiFi. Whether you want to keep in touch with family, use your phone as a sat nav or simply relax with a movie, you might find that many of your chosen locations don’t offer you much in the way of a WiFi signal. Therefore, having your own WiFi booster can help to increase your signal and you can stay connected.

9. Kitchen essentials

Unless you are planning to eat out for every meal, it is likely that you are going to want a few kitchen essentials. Make sure you have the basics of a kettle, toaster and microwave, and most meals will feel within reach. You should also make sure that you set off with some of the more important things like milk, coffee, tea bags and breakfast cereal to see you through most situations.

10. Solar panels

A camper holiday is all about freedom, so you might not want to be tied to a campsite that has lots of amenities. If you have your own portable solar panels on board, then you have the ability to go almost anywhere that you want to, and still be able to have electricity for your lights and appliances. What we can’t guarantee you is how much sunshine the British weather will provide.

Camper holidays are a completely different way of life to many others, and it is easy to see why they are becoming more and more popular. The ability to simply get out on the open road and spend the night almost anywhere that you please can be very tempting when you want to get away from it all, and if you make sure that you pack all of our essentials, you can have a great trip no matter where you end up.

What You Should Know When Buying a Used Car

When buying a new car for yourself, it is often better value to opt for a used model. These represent greater choice, and they will suffer the depreciation that a new model inevitably will. However, buying a used car can fill many people with dread, as they have visions of spending their hard-earned money on something that falls to pieces before they have even got it home.

There are many pitfalls when it comes to buying a used car, which is why we have put together our top tips to ensure that you get the keys to your dream car and not a nightmare.

Choose your model

The used car market is massive, which means that the choice can sometimes be overwhelming. It is therefore important to decide what make and model you actually want before you start your search. Think about the kind of journeys you will be undertaking, how many passengers you will regularly be transporting, how much boot space you will need, the appropriate engine size and what kind of fuel efficiency you want.

Once you have taken each factor into account, it is much easier to pinpoint what car you are actually looking for and you can embark on a more targeted search.

Budget

One of the biggest areas of concern when buying a used car is the budget. You should decide how much you are willing to spend and then make sure that you stick to it. As long as you are realistic, you should find something that falls into your price range, just remember to take things like insurance, road tax and maintenance into account as well.

Before you try and buy a car, make sure you know how you are going to fund it. If you are buying in cash, then have the money ready as this will put you in a much stronger position when negotiating. If you intend to go down the route of car finance, then you need to know that you have a good credit rating and think about how much you can afford, as there will be a considerable amount of interest built into the cost of the car.

Used car sellers

The three main ways to buy a used car are from a dealer, a private seller or through an online retailer, and each one has its own pros and cons. Buying from a dealer can give you some sort of protection, as they will usually service and repair the car before they sell it, and they can also give you warranty cover for any problems you might encounter. Of course, this all comes at a price, and this means you will probably pay a little bit more for the vehicle.

Private sellers can present a greater risk as you have very little recourse if there is a problem with the car. Most are sold as seen, so you need to make sure you check the car thoroughly before you make any deals. As there are no forecourt overheads or warranties to pay for, a private sale can often be cheaper, which means there are some great deals to be had if you look carefully.

These days, it is now possible to buy your used car online. You can find the one you want and have it delivered to you. As you don’t usually get the opportunity to view or test drive the car before you buy it, there should be plenty of protection in place in case you have any issues once it arrives.

Vehicle checks

When buying a used car, never take the word of any seller without doing your own checks on the vehicle. Before you go to view any car, you can go online to find out whether there is any outstanding HPI on it, whether it has had its plates changed, what its MOT history looks like and whether it has ever been written off.

You should also do some manual checks of the vehicle to see what kind of condition it is in. Look for rust on the wings, sills, below the bumpers, under the wheel arches and behind the bonnet. If it can be seen on the brake pipes, then these will need to be replaced.

Make sure that you check for any signs of damage and try to find out how they occurred, as they could be an indication of further problems or even a car that is unsafe. Keep an eye out for areas that have been repainted, doors or windows that do not shut properly and bodywork that is not fully lined up.

Look out for any leaks, particularly after a test drive, as it will be harder to disguise them at this point. It should go without saying that smoke from the back of the car could indicate a serious problem and loose steering should also be a concern. Lean on the corners of the car to see if it bounces back up as a way of checking the suspension and be on the lookout for non-legal tyres, faulty lights and slack seatbelts as these can all indicate that the car has not been well looked after.

It is important to ask when the cam belt was last changed or when it is due to be changed as these can lead to huge bills if they break.

Extra items

It is always wise to ask what comes with the car, as this might lead to other expenses. If there is no spare key or adaptors for locking wheel nuts, then you will have another cost to factor in, and this should be reflected in how much you pay for the car. It’s also important to ask whether the car will come with car mats, as it is fairly common practice that used cars won’t come with car mats pre-supplied.

You also need to make sure that any car you buy comes with a V5C registration certificate, more commonly known as the logbook, a valid MOT certificate, the service history and the car handbook, as these are also expensive to replace.

Used cars can provide some great options so do your homework and you could be on the road sooner than you think.

Whatever car you drive, it can be good to have a few accessories along for the ride. These might perform functional purposes or serve to personalise your car a little and make it feel more like your own, and in some cases, they might even do both at once. There are a huge number of accessories out there at the moment, so we have picked some of the favourites that you will want for 2024.

Phone Holder

Very few of us go anywhere without our mobile phones these days, but we all know the dangers of using them when we are driving. Whilst you could lock them away in the glove box or keep them in your bag, they can still serve a purpose by providing navigation assistance or playing music, so it is good to have them close to hand. Installing a mobile phone holder in your car therefore seems essential these days as it will allow you to make use of the phone’s great features safely and legally.

These holders are relatively inexpensive and can attach to your dashboard, windscreen or air vents without much difficulty, just make sure you check that the holder can accommodate your model of phone.

Boot liners

We can often neglect the boot of our cars, but it is one of the areas that we put under the most stress. We are quite happy to throw shopping, prams, golf clubs and tools in the back without a second thought, but this can lead to it getting scruffy very quickly.

A custom car boot liner is therefore the perfect accessory for the back of your car, as it offers some fantastic protection. These liners are often made from a thick, quilted material, and don’t just cover the floor of your boot, but the sides as well, meaning that your car is shielded from scratches, dirt and moisture.

The liner simply clips in place and can then be removed and put into the washing machine when it is muddy or has been subject to a spillage. Many examples can even be personalised, so that you can have them in any colour, and some come with a bumper flap to help prevent scratches and scuffs to your paintwork when loading the car.

Dash cam

We are seeing more and more dash cams appearing in cars, and this trend looks set to continue in 2024. They record whatever goes on around your car, therefore providing evidence in the event of an accident or catching thieves on camera.

This not only makes them a worthwhile deterrent to criminals but can also make it much easier to prove your case if anything happens whilst on the road. They are so effective that many insurance companies now offer discounts on your premiums if you have one fitted in your car.

Pet beds

We all love to take our dogs on adventures with us, but our cars can suffer as a result, so why not give them their own car pet bed.

Made from soft and cosy quilted material, these beds provide a comfortable spot for your dog to relax in, without needing to worry about claw marks, muddy paws or little accidents, as these beds are easily washable. Car pet beds are a great accessory as they mean that your pet can travel in comfort and style whilst the interior of your car stays protected.

Car bin

We all know how quickly your car can become untidy. Whether it is sweet wrappers, cigarette butts or pay and display tickets, our cars can soon fill up with litter. These either make their way to the floor or overflow out of door pockets every time you get out of the car.

Car bins are therefore popping up more and more frequently as a way to keep your car looking spick and span. They fit conveniently into cup holders or door pockets and give you the perfect space to dispose of your rubbish, and they can then be emptied easily whenever needed.

First aid kit

Not many of us think about it, but a first aid kit should be an essential accessory for any car. Whether you are involved in an accident or simply have a child with a scraped knee, you never know when you might need one.

There are pre-prepared kits that you can buy, or you could put your own together. It might be worth ensuring that it includes things like plaster, bandages, pain killers, sun cream, after sun lotion, bite cream, hay fever medication and antiseptic cream to cover all eventualities.

Tyre inflator

The queues at petrol stations to inflate your tyres always seem to take forever, and it can seem ridiculous to pay for air, so make sure you have your own tyre inflator in your boot. This means you can pop up your tyres at home whenever you need to, and you can deal with slow puncture while you are out and about to help get you home.

Battery charger

We are so reliant on our devices, and it can be a nightmare when we run out of battery. With some cars, you might need your phone to unlock the vehicle, you might need sat nav facilities, or the kids might want to watch YouTube in the back seat.

None of this is possible with a flat battery, so have a digital battery charger on hand to save the day. You will need to remember to charge this too at some point, but most have different ports that allow you to plug in all sorts of different devices and keep the peace for the journey home.

Our cars are now much more than just a tool to get us from one place to another. They perform so many functions, and we ask a lot of them, so it can be great to add a few key accessories that will make this task easier, so these are the ones we recommend you look at adding to your car this year.

Top 10 Interior Modifications You Can Make to Your Car

Your car is probably your pride and enjoy, and it can be fantastic to personalise it and make it reflect you and your style. Whilst many people focus on the exterior of the car to do this, it is the interior where you spend most of your time.

That’s why we have put together our list of 10 favourite modifications to get the interior of your car as unique as you are.

1. Sound system

When it comes to car modifications, one of the first thoughts that most people have is to upgrade the sound system. The more tech savvy might feel confident doing this for themselves, whilst others will need the help of a professional. There are some great systems that allow an entire range of functionality and connectivity to give you the full mobile DJ effect, and you could even add a subwoofer or two to the boot for some extra bass.

2. Car mats

When you buy any car, there is a good chance that the car mats are a little bit boring. Whilst they serve the important purpose of protecting the floor of your car from dirt, damp and wear, they tend to be a little forgotten.

Buying a new set of car mats doesn’t just mean replacing like for like, as there are now plenty of options out there to make them a bit more exciting. Not only can you choose the type of carpet that they are made from to provide a little luxury under foot, but you can also opt for coloured trims and even embroidered lettering to add your name, your business or something relating to your car.

If that isn’t enough personalisation for you, then look for a company that actually print a picture onto your car mats, meaning you can have your favourite holiday snap, a business logo or even a picture of the family pet on display for all to see.

3. Lighting

The right lighting can improve any space, and the same is true for your car. It is relatively easy to add LED lights to the roof of the car, in your door pockets or even in the footwell. They can give you a choice of colours, and some can even change according to the beat of your music.

4. Seat covers

Seat covers from years gone-by used to take the form of some uncomfortable looking beads, but these days there are all sorts of options. Introducing custom car seat covers, they can be made to fit the exact measurements of your car and come in a range of colours to help brighten things up. You can even add some embroidery to show off the model of your car, your name or a favourite quote to make them totally unique to you and your car.

5. Window tints

Window tints have been a popular modification for many years. From a practical point of view, they can help to keep the sun out of your car in the summer, which is particularly useful if you are transporting small children or pets. Of course, they also add instant cool, just make sure that they stay within the legal limits before you install them.

6. Steering wheel covers

When you are driving, one of the things that you will see most often is the steering wheel that is right in front of you, so why not give that a lift? Once upon a time, the options were the fluffy style designed to match the dice on your mirror, but these days the options are endless.

You can go for leather, carbon fibre or padded styles in almost any colour and design. You could even find them preprinted with the logo of your favourite band or football team. They add some instant flair, and they can help to make the wheel a little less cold to the touch on some of those frosty mornings.

7. Organisers

There are all sorts of organisers that you can add to your car to help keep it tidy and ensure everything is within reach. These could hang off the back of the front seats to give the kids all that they need to stay amused, holders to keep that loose change all together, hooks to hold handbags or even miniature litter bins to stop wrappers and rubbish ending up on the floor.

8. Gear stick

You might not think that there is much you can do to make your gear stick more exciting, but you would be wrong. There are all sorts of ways that you can give your gear stick an upgrade, from fabric fun covers to chrome or colour. These can not only add to the style of your car, but they can also give you an easier and more comfortable grip if you need it.

9. Dashboard covers

To upgrade the exterior of your car, you might want to apply a wrap, so why not do something similar on the inside too? Your dashboard might be a bit plain, or it could be showing signs of wear, so switch it up with a dashboard cover. These could take the form of vinyl or even velour wrap kits and can give the interior of your car almost any look that you want in a matter of minutes.

10. Gadgets

We all love a good gadget, and there are plenty of them that you can add to your car. Most of us never have enough USB sockets, but these can be easily added to ensure you can always power and charge your devices. There are also plenty of ways you can legally integrate your phone into your car, or you could look at installing screens in the back seats to keep your passengers amused on long journeys.

Your car can be completely personal to you, and there are so many options available that you can make a few subtle changes or give it a complete overhaul, ensuring it is stylish, practical and completely reflective of its owner.

Giving your car a good clean means making sure you tackle the inside as well as the outside, but this is not always the easiest task. Whilst your paintwork can be wiped down and polished, it can be much harder to get the fabrics in the interior of your car looking as good as new.

Vacuuming

Your car seats will need to be treated differently depending on whether they are made from cloth or leather, but the one thing that doesn’t change is the need for a good vacuum.

Most vacuum cleaners will come with a special brush tool to help you with jobs like this and will help you to bring out the dust and pet hairs from the fibres of the fabric and remember to make sure that you pay as much attention to the back of the seats as you do to the more obvious bits.

Next, add the crevice tool to your vacuum to make sure you can get into all of those awkward nooks and crannies where fluff, hair and crumbs can build up.

If you have a handheld cordless vacuum, this can make the task a lot easier as these tend to be lighter in weight and you don’t need to worry about trying to get cables to stretch to wherever your car is.

Stains

If you have any stains on your seats, then it can be wise to pre-treat them before you attempt a more general clean. In most cases, working a fabric cleaner into the stain with a cloth or brush and leaving it for around 15 minutes will help to lift the stain.

However, if the stain is from dye, such as those new jeans, then you should dampen the area and apply a paste made up of a few drops of dry oxygen-based bleach and water. This should be left to work for an hour before being vacuumed away.

Cleaning leather car seats

It is important to remember that you need to be careful what products you use on leather car seats, as you can mark or damage them. Taking one small area at a time, work a specialist leather cleaner into the leather with a soft, damp cloth before rinsing away with another damp cloth. Then take a dry cloth and buff the seats to get them shining again. To prolong the effects of your cleaning and protect against further marks and stays you can then apply a protectant or conditioner to the leather.

Cleaning cloth car seats

If you have a carpet cleaning machine, then these can make cleaning cloth car seats much easier. They will often have a special attachment for cleaning furniture, so just make sure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

If you are cleaning your cloth car seats by hand, then you will need some special upholstery cleaning products that you can spray on and work into the fabric with a cloth or soft brush. Most products will recommend that you let them sit for a while in order to give them chance to take effect before rinsing with a cloth. If the fabric is damp, you can blot it dry with another cloth or towel.

Cleaning vinyl car seats

To clean a vinyl car seat, you can simply spray a general all-purpose cleaner onto the seat and wipe with a microfibre cloth. You should then rinse it if there is any remaining residue and wipe it dry with another cloth.

How often should you clean your car seats?

The easy answer to this is to judge it by eye, and it will depend on how often you use your car and what you use it for – it is likely to be far messier if you have been hiking in the middle of winter than it is just doing the weekly shop.

If something spills or stains, then ideally you should try to clean this as soon as possible. The longer you leave a stain, the harder it will be to get out, so speed is of the essence.

A thorough clean of your car seats can be done seasonally, unless they merit something more regular.

Car seat covers

There is a lot of hard work involved in getting your car seats clean, and so a better option can be to protect them from the mess in the first place. Investing in some tailor-made car seat covers can protect your upholstery from spills and tears whilst still looking great in your car.

They are made from durable material and can be designed to exact specifications of your car to ensure that they have the perfect fit. There are quilted options available for added comfort and you can even personalise them to make sure that they fit in with the style of you and your vehicle.

The best bit about a seat cover is that when it does need a clean, it is easy to remove. Simply give them a quick wash, leave them to dry and pop them back into your car for a much quicker and easier way to get your car sparkling again.

Seat covers can be particularly useful if you have pets, as they will not only protect against dog hair and messy paws, but they can also prevent scratches and pulls that are caused by excitable claws.

Cleaning your car upholstery can take time, but thankfully it doesn’t need to be done too often, especially if you protect your seats. Make sure that you never saturate your seats with water or any cleaning products, and always follow the manufacturers instructions. If you are in any doubt, try a product on an inconspicuous spot first to make sure it is not going to damage the material of your seat.

How Will the Evolution of Car Interiors Shape Our Driving Experience in the Future?

We all tend to take our cars for granted a little these days, but if you stop and look around, it is amazing to see how different the cars on our roads really are. Whilst there are some vehicles that might be 30 years old still eating up the miles, there are also some pretty futuristic electric models that are starting to appear.

Just this little snapshot can show us how much the design of cars has changed over the decades, but some of the biggest and most shocking changes have actually taken place inside the cars. Interiors have varied from looking like a gentleman’s club to a spaceship and everything in between.

In this article, we take a look at what the future might hold for the interiors of our cars and what it might mean for our experiences as drivers and passengers.

The past

1930s carWhen we think about the direction that car design might take in the future, it is important to look to the past first. In the 1930s a car was still very much a luxury, and only the privileged owned one, so car manufacturers wanted the interiors to feel as special as the owners probably felt.

It is for this reason that many of them started to look like a room from a stately home, as art deco styles produced healthy amounts of timber, leather and shiny metal. This did set the template for many interior car designs that are still being produced today, as a little mahogany in the right place and thick carpet beneath the feet has a tendency to make things feel expensive.

To show off their wealth, car owners enjoyed the exclusive little details that had been added, including precise stitching, padded seating and everything polished to within an inch of its life. Luxury car manufacturers today still adopt this approach, showing that time doesn’t change everything.

1970s carBy the 1950s, a sense of flamboyance had started to creep in, thanks to influence from the aerospace industry. Now, car interiors were starting to enjoy a little more colour, big grilles and chrome bezels, but it was not until the 1970s that plastic started to become a feature. At this point, it began to take over instrument panels to give a more ergonomic design, and the trend has largely continued to this day.

Throughout the last 40 years, a lot of focus has been given to entertainment in various forms. As stereos have developed, so have car designs, with many centring around the CD players. Now, digital displays take centre stage, with the equivalent of a tablet computer sitting firmly in the middle of most cars.

The outtakes

The have been a few weird and wonderful additions to the interiors of our cars over the years, but it is fair to say that not all of them have caught on. At one point Fiat tried to integrate an espresso machine, whilst a specially modified Cadillac had its own television, shower and toilet, but neither of these proved to be a popular addition.

The in-built fragrance system from Mercedes-Benz has so far failed to replace the traditional pine air freshener whilst Chrysler’s early attempts to install record players were thankfully replaced with cassette and CD players, and eventually Bluetooth.

We have all wished we couldn’t hear the fighting of our children in the back seat at one point or another, so it is easy to understand the attempts to build partitions in cars to block them off, but safety concerns soon put an end to this one.

Transporting your dog has never been easy, especially if you are fearful of them clawing the seats or leaving mess behind. These days we have some terrific pet liners to protect our interiors, but some early vehicle manufacturers tried to fit sacks or cages to the sides of the car for our furry friends to travel in.

What does the future hold?

These days, car manufacturers are trying to develop car interiors that combine a modern feel with all the technology you could wish for and the ultimate in comfort. As many have found, this can be a tricky balance to get right. Car manufacturers have realised that the needs of the public vary greatly, and so whilst some want a small cinema screen to control every aspect of the car, others put more focus on being cocooned in a comfortable seat. That is why car interiors are now more varied that the exteriors as they try to appeal to different sectors of the market.

It is fair to say that technology is set to be at the forefront of every development in the interior of your car. Whether it is all singing and dancing infotainment system, an AI assistant or a seat massager, the biggest brands are all now being forced to compete with some of the high tech brands that have stolen the march on them.

The work on driverless cars has been underway for some time, and that looks set to continue, whilst the way we power our cars is now all geared towards an electric future. BMW have already showcased colour changing paint on the outside of their cars, so it seems only likely that more customisable interiors will not be far behind.

Brands now also have a new focus, as we don’t just car what our cars look like, but how they were made. This has led to a push towards more sustainable materials, which might mean that the old wood trend could be set for a resurgence.

No matter how cleaver our cars get, many consumers still want to enjoy their home away from home. That means a plush carpet underfoot, a driving position that supports them and that new car smell that we all relish. This probably means that whilst some space age models might appear, many will still keep their roots in the old interior traditions, with a few modern twists, even if the outsides of the cars start growing wings.

When Should You Replace Your Car Mats?

Your car mats are an essential part of keeping your car clean, safe and in good order, but they are not something that we give much thought to. However, to keep the interior of your car looking its best, it is important to replace your car floor mats from time to time, to ensure that they are still doing their jobs properly.

So, here’s some useful tips to know when looking for those key signs that you might need to invest in some new car mats.

Movement

If you notice that your car mats are moving around under your feet, then you know that you have a problem. Usually, they should be held in place by Velcro, poppers or eyelets to ensure that they do not slip or roll up.

If they do, then they can present a trip hazard when getting in and out of the vehicle and they can also pose a massive safety concern by hampering your ability to reach or use the pedals properly while you are driving. This movement could be a sign that the fixings are broken or worn, and so it is time to look at getting some replacements.

Odour

Car mats which have been subjected to a lot of dirt and damp can start to develop a very unpleasant smell. This is due to mould and mildew starting to form and being left to fester while other debris rots, and the smell can be very difficult to get rid of. In this instance, the best solution can be to remove he mats from the car and buy a new set.

If that unusual smell isn’t coming from your car mats however, perhaps there’s a different issue that has gone unnoticed. Check out our guide on car smells and how to fix them.

Usage

When you buy a vehicle, it will often come with a set of standard car mats, but these often do not offer the durability that you need. Those who use their vehicle in a commercial setting, adventurers who trek off the beaten path or anyone with a pet that likes getting down and dirty in the nearest muddy puddle will know that these car mats offer little protection and can be difficult to clean.

If you find yourself in this situation, then it may be better to upgrade your car mats to a rubber alternative which can offer you much greater levels of protection and can withstand the dirt and debris that you throw at them.

Obstructions

Noticing your car mats is rarely a good thing, as it probably means that they are doing something they shouldn’t. They may start to impede your access to the pedals or are causing other difficulties due to them becoming folded, bent or warped. It may also be due to lose threads caused by fraying material. All of these are a sign that your car mats have seen better days, and the time has come to get some new ones.

Heel pads

Your heel pad supports your heel while you are driving, so it is one of the hardest working elements of your car mats. If you do a lot of driving, you might notice the heel pad starting to wear away or lift. This will need to be replaced as there is a chance that it will catch on your shoe and cause an obstruction while you are driving, so this means it needs to be replaced.

Luxury

Sometimes you might not need to replace your car mats for any specific reason other than to give the interior of your car a lift. You can choose from luxury carpet, personalised embroidery and even photo printing, so if you are getting a bit bored, why not add some more luxury to your vehicle?

Mould

Mould can be a significant problem when it comes to your car mats. As you get in and out of your vehicle, you bring all sorts of debris, from leaves and mud to water and snow, which can all lead to a build up of moisture on or under the mat if it is not cleaned regularly.

This can release spores into the environment which can be extremely damaging to the health of you or your passengers, as it can trigger allergic or asthmatic reactions. If you have noticed a smell in your car, or you have found people experiencing respiratory problems, then your car mats could be the source of it, and they will need to go in the bin.

Dimensions

When buying car mats, it can be tempting to opt for a universal car mat as these can be cheaper. As the name suggests, they have been designed to fit almost any car, which means they might not really be suitable.

Not only is there a risk that they can slip or slide around, but they also may not cover all of the area that you need them to. This leaves your carpet exposed to all of the wear and tear that your car mats should be dealing with. Those universal car mats might have been cheaper, but they are much easier to replace with bespoke measured mats designed specifically for your car, than it is to clean or replace the carpet.

Selling up

When you come to sell your car, you will probably get it cleaned to buff away some scratches and make sure that it is polished to within an inch of its life, but if a potential buyer gets inside and finds dirt, mould and bad odours they are likely to leave without even taking it for a test drive.

Putting the car up for sale with clean, new shiny mats can help to make it a lot more sellable, and it is a small investment that can help you to achieve the full value of your car.

Your car mats have an important job to do, so it is important to get the best quality that you can. This means that they will sometimes need to be replaced in order to ensure that you can drive safely, in a comfortable and clean environment, protecting your car and its resale value in the future.

Whether you want to protect your car seats or simply switch up the style of your vehicle, seat covers are now becoming increasingly popular. There are many out there for you to choose from, with some offering a universal fit, whilst others are specifically tailored or your car. So, which is better?

Why buy a seat cover?

Custom seat covers are becoming increasingly popular as a way to customise the interior of your vehicle. They can add a new pop of colour, a pattern or a design that can help to reflect your personality and make the inside of your car a more enjoyable place to be.

They are also proving to be a life saver for those who might be experiencing wear and tear inside their car. Pets can leave behind scratches and hair, whilst children are great at spilling drinks and wiping sticky fingers across your upholstery.

Getting into the car after a gym session can leave some interesting sweat marks, and those who use their vehicles for work can drag in all sorts of dust, dirt and debris. These will all take their toll on your seats and leave behind marks that can be incredibly hard to get off.

Car seat covers provide excellent protection against a lot of this, helping to keep your seats looking good and maintaining your resale value. Then, if a little accident happens, you can easily remove the covers and wash them with far less hassle.

When you buy a seat cover, you will need to choose between universal and tailored options. As you might expect, the universal covers are designed to fit and seat in any car, whilst the tailored car seat covers will have been made to the exact dimensions of your make, model and age of car.

The fit

When buying a car seat cover, one of your biggest concerns will need to be how it fits. As a universal cover has been designed to be used in multiple vehicles, you can find that it will bunch in certain areas and sag in others, which can mean that it doesn’t look as attractive as you might have hoped. As the name suggests, a tailor-made car seat cover will have been put together specifically for the seats in your car, and so it should fit like a glove.

A tailored seat cover will also have been designed to fit around your seatbelt buckles, adjustment leavers, headrests and even you cup holders, so there are no problems around accessing all of the features of your car, which is not something a universal seat cover can guarantee.

The protection

Both universal and tailor-made seat covers will be made from hard wearing materials in order to protect your seats from the day to day use that you put it through. It is important to check what each one is made of, and that it is washable. You should remember that if your seat cover does not fit properly, there may be gaps where spills and UV light can still get to, so for the ultimate protection, you need a superior fit.

Customisation

A universal seat cover has been designed to cover all eventualities and fit just about anywhere, so the styling options may be a little limited. You will usually have a small selection of designs and colours to choose from, which may not fit your taste.

As tailor-made car seat covers are made to order, you can not only enjoy a wider selection of colours and fabrics, but you can also choose from a number of other customisable options. These might include coloured trim or some form of embroidery so that you can include your name, your car brand or a funky slogan or message. This can be a great way to make your car feel really personal and unique.

The cost

The price of your seat covers is always going to be a factor, and it should not be ignored that universal car seat covers are often less expensive than their tailor-made counterparts, which can be useful if you are on a budget.

However, it is important to remember that you are protecting an individual that is worth thousands, and so paying an extra few pounds to give it the defences that it needs can be worthwhile. Whilst tailor-made car seat covers can be more expensive, they are still often a very reasonable price and can offer excellent value for money when you consider the quality of the product.

Versatility

Universal car seats may not offer the perfect fit, but the nature of them does mean that they can be moved from one car to another with ease. They can simply be removed from one car and fitted into another in a matter of minutes, so you won’t need to buy a new one when you buy a new car. However, as a tailored car seat cover is made to the exact specifications of your vehicle, you won’t be able to take it with you when you swap to another vehicle.

Installation

A custom car seat cover will usually come with its own installation kit to make the process of fitting it much easier. As it is made for a specific car, your seat cover manufacturer will know exactly what is needed to get it into place and can provide you with instructions on how to do this.

As a universal seat cover could fit almost any vehicle, there will be a lot more guess work involved and there may be different ways to install it depending on your vehicle, so there might be an element of trial and error before you get it right.

When you are looking to protect the interior of your car, it is generally better to do it with the best quality materials that you can. A tailored car seat cover can offer you the perfect fit and so the best possible protection as well as unrivalled levels of style.

If taking a holiday without your dog in tow is simply unthinkable, then you need to ensure that you find the safest and most comfortable way to travel with you. A moving vehicle can be a frightening and intimidating place for even the most placid animal, so it is important to plan their transportation carefully to make sure that they are happy and that everyone in the car is kept as safe as possible.

In this article, we have put together our eight top tips to make travelling with your furry friends a fun and pleasant experience.

1.      Stay within the law

The Highway Code states that if you are travelling with any animal in the car, then they must be suitably secured. This is because they risk causing a hazard while you are driving. An excitable, scared or even needy pet can be unpredictable, especially when it comes to getting your attention, and so they could distract the driver or obstruct them, leading to an accident.

They also need to be secured to prevent them causing further harm if an accident does happen. We all know the dangers to someone in the front seat if a human in the back is not wearing a seatbelt and is catapulted into them in an accident, and there is the same risk from a pet.

Having an animal hurled into the back of you with the force of a collision could be potentially fatal for both you and them so they need to be fully secured for everyone’s safety. This could be with a harness or crate, and any pet carriers should also be secured in place.

2.      Protect your vehicle

As much as we love our pets, we are all aware of the damage that they are capable of doing, even when they do not mean to. That is why a high-quality, protective boot liner can be so valuable.

These quilted liners can be secured into your car to give your furry friend plenty of comfort during their journey, but it can also help to protect your seats and carpets from pet hair, scratches, drool and the occasional little accident. It is easily removed and washed, so you can be confident that your car will stay in good condition no matter what.

3.      Get your paperwork ready

If you are planning to take your pet overseas, then there will be plenty of paperwork that you will need to take with you. What you need will depend on where you are going, how long you are staying and who you are travelling with, so speak to your vet about what you will need. Some of this can be costly, and there can be long waiting times for some documents to come through, so it is best to start planning as early as possible.

4.      Ventilation

Even an experienced pet traveller can suffer from car sickness, as the motion of the vehicle can feel extremely unnatural to them. One of the best ways to combat this is to ensure that the vehicle is properly ventilated at all times.

When it comes to the temperature, it is best to keep things on the cool side and heat can make the sickness feel worse. Fresh air is often the best medicine, so where possible, try to crack the windows a little.

However, you should ensure that your pet is not able to escape out of the window or hang their head outside as they risk being injured by any flying debris on the road.

5.      Food and drink

A full stomach is almost a guaranteed way to make a pet feel sick when travelling, so try to feed them well in advance of any journey and make sure that you keep it light. If you are travelling for any significant lengths of time, then feel free to offer them a top up, but make sure it is still light and that the vehicle is not moving so that the food can settle properly.

Any pet will need to be properly hydrated when on the move, so it is good to keep some water handy. There are some great bottles and bowls which have been specifically designed with travel in mind that can avoid spills and be easily put away.

6.      Take breaks

We all know how good it feels to stretch your legs when you have been in the car for a long while, and it is no different for your pets. They will also need to be able to get out and have a walk around, particularly if nature calls. Whilst you might want to get to your destination as quickly as possible, this will not be in your pets’ best interests, so make sure you plan plenty of spots where you can stop and take a break for a little while.

7.      Get them chipped

It is a legal requirement for all dogs over 8 weeks old to have a microchip, and from 2024 any cat over 20 weeks old will also need to have one. When a pet is in unfamiliar surroundings, there is a chance that they may become spooked and bolt, so you need to ensure that they can be returned to you as quickly as possible when they are found. Make sure that they have a microchip fitted and check that all of your contact details are up to date so that you can be reached.

8.      Keep them entertained

You might scroll through your phone or read a newspaper on a long journey, and you would almost certainly bring things for your kids to do in the car, so why not do the same for your pet? Animals can become particularly bored on a long journey, and this can lead to them being restless and difficult to manage so bring along a favourite blanket or toy, as long as it is something that won’t get them too excited but helps them to pass the time.

Our pets are not just animals, they are a huge part of our families, so it stands to reason that we want to take them with us on holidays at home or abroad. Whilst the thought of frolicking on the beach or running through the woods with them might seem perfect, getting them to your destination is sometimes more difficult, and so a lot of thought needs to go into how you plan to transport them.

In this article we have put together some of our top tips on the best way to travel with your pets to keep them safe, happy and stress free.

Plan in advance

If you are taking a pet away with you, then it is important to make sure that they are going to be welcome. You should check that your hotel or campsite is pet friendly and also have a look for nearby pet friendly pubs and restaurants that you will be able to take your animal to when you get out and about.

There are now lots of apps available that can show you pet friendly walks, attractions and restaurants as well as vets and animal hospitals in case a problem occurs while you are away. You may even be able to find some pet sitting services that can take care of your animal while you go somewhere that they are not able to.

Travelling with your pet can be great fun and it can feel very special to involve them in precious family memories, but they just require a little forward planning to make sure that they are able to reach their destination in comfort whilst also remaining within the law.

Paperwork

If you are planning on taking your animal abroad, then you will need to make sure that you have all of your paperwork in place before you go. What you need will often depend on where you are travelling to, how long you intend to stay and what type of animal you are taking with you so you will need to do your homework.

It is important to remember that there is often a backlog in processing permits, health records and pet passports, so you should try to get this in order as early as possible to ensure that you are not left without it when you set off.

Once you get on the move, make sure that you keep all of your pet’s travel documents with your own so that they are easily accessible when they need to be checked and try to make copies of them in case they get lost while you are there.

The Highway Code

According to The Highway Code, it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that all animals in the vehicle are suitably restrained. This is to ensure that they are not able to distract the driver and cause an accident, but also to prevent them from injuring you or themselves if an accident were to occur.

As a result of this, an accident caused by an animal who has not been properly restrained could result in an invalid insurance policy and a charge of ‘dangerous driving’. It is therefore imperative that you think carefully about how you intend to transport your pet in a way that keeps everybody safe and on the right side of the law.

European laws may differ to this, and so its always worth checking the rules of your destination country, and any you’re traveling through ahead of time to ensure you’re aware of your responsibilities when carrying pets on board.

Restraining your pet

When it comes to restraining your pet, this can be easier with cats or other small animals as they can be put into a specially designed pet carrier. You should ensure that you make this as comfortable as possible for them and that once they have been placed (or wrestled) inside that you have closed it securely.

This is because you do not want them to make an escape when are outside of the car, or to cause a problem while you are driving. You should also ensure that the carrier is secured in place using clips or a seatbelt.

When it comes to securing a dog, there are several different options. You could put them into a crate which can be secured to the seats or put in the boot, or alternatively you could invest in a harness that can be attached into place. If your animal is travelling in the front of your car, then you need to make sure that the airbag has been turned off.

Make them comfortable

Travelling can be stressful for your pets, and the back seat of your car will never be as comfortable as your sofa, so it is understandable that animals can get a little restless. It is therefore important to try and make them as comfortable as possible. You could do this by installing a quilted boot liner, which will not only give your pet something to snuggle up on, but it will also help to protect your seats from pet hair, scratches and any little accidents that might occur.

In addition to this, you can also get specially made car pet beds which are warm and cosy and provide extra layers of comfort. These act like a home away from home and can be placed in your boot as a way to give your pet somewhere comfortable and peaceful to travel.

Food and drink

You should try not to overfeed your pet before any kind of long journey, as this can make them feel sick once they are on the move. Instead, try to feed them small amounts and give them a little extra if you stop for a break. It is important that all animals are kept hydrated through a journey, as dehydration can make them unwell and bring on travel sickness.

Exercise

Whilst it is difficult to let smaller animals exercise, you should give a dog chance to stretch its legs if you are on a long journey. Make sure you plan regular breaks that will allow them chance to burn off any pent-up energy and to relieve themselves without doing it all over your car seats.

Custom vs OEM Car Mats: Which Should You Choose?

When you buy a car, there are a lot of things that you need to take into consideration. You might look at the size of the engine, the speed from 0-60mph or the size of the boot, and yet many car negotiations seem to come down to the inclusion of some car mats.

The mats your car comes with are likely to be basic, and the upgrades from a dealership can often seem expensive. There is now also the option to add aftermarket car mats to your car, which can make it even harder to know which one is the right option.

A car mat is there to protect the interior of your car, and yet there can be a lot of variations between them. In this article, we take a closer look at the difference between OEM and custom car mats, as well as explaining what they are to help you decide which ones are right the right choice for you and your vehicle.

What is an OEM car mat?

An OEM car mat might sound technical, but in reality, it just means Original Equipment Manufacturer. That means that they come from the maker of your car and can sometimes be called ‘genuine’ or ‘factory’ car mats instead. These tend to be popular as they feel as though they belong in the car – after all, they were made for it. The biggest advantage of buying OEM car mats is that you can be confident they will fit your car perfectly and they have been tested to meet all of the relevant safety standards.

The downside of these OEM car mats is that they can be a little boring and the quality can sometimes leave a bit to be desired. The options for colours and materials are limited to say the very least, and the quality of these mats can also leave a little to be desired.

What is a custom car mat?

A custom car mat is something you can buy from elsewhere after you have bought the vehicle. They are not made by your vehicle manufacturer, but they must still meet certain safety and performance standards. The biggest difference with these mats is that you have much more control over what they look like, and there is far greater choice available for you.

Car mat fit

Many people stick with the mats from the original manufacturer because they know that they will fit perfectly. You want your mat to sit in the right place without riding up or slipping about, so it is important that it is exactly the right size. Most custom car mat manufacturers now have the measurements needed to create mats that will fit your car and are often more willing to produce mats for older models of car that the manufacturer may no longer want to supply for.

Car mat colours

If you buy an OEM car mat, then the biggest decision you will need to make is between black or grey. As you might expect from a custom car mat, you can choose from almost any colour under the sun, along with a range of trims to match. That means it can match your paint colour, your shoes or even Aunt Mabel’s handbag. The choice is yours.

Carpet quality

You OEM car mats will probably match the quality of the carpets in your car. This can make it a good match, but it doesn’t always give you a lot in the way of choice. A custom car mat can give you a number of different carpet grades to choose from, so it can be hard wearing or feel like something that came out of your living room. Depending on how you use your vehicle, you may want to opt for rubber mats instead as these are much more durable and can be more easily cleaned.

Personalisation

As you might expect, your OEM car mat will look exactly the way your manufacturer decides. In some cases, your mats might include the manufacturers logo, but this is as exciting as you can expect them to get. If fitting your car with something unique is what is important for you, then a custom car mat should tick all of your boxes.

Most aftermarket car mat suppliers can give you options such as custom embroidery that allows you to add your name, or even photograph printing that will let you include a cool design or a picture of the family dog. There is a huge amount of flexibility available with custom car mats so you can let your imagination run riot.

Price

Whilst you might expect your custom car mats to be an expensive option, that is not always the case. Vehicle manufacturers often charge a premium simply because the car mats have come directly from them, whilst custom car mats are more competitively priced. It stands to reason that the more options you choose, the more expensive your custom mats will become, but even the most highly personalised options do not differ in price too greatly from the manufacturer ones.

Variations

When you choose an OEM car mat, what you get will largely depend on the manufacturer themselves. It goes without saying that the car mats from Ferrari are likely to be very different to those from Kia, and so you won’t necessarily know what to expect until you see them.

With custom car mats, you can see exactly what you are buying and choose every aspect that relates to them. If you don’t like what you see, then there are plenty of other retailers out there who are more than happy to give you what you are looking for.

Your car mats are there to serve a practical purpose, but that doesn’t mean that you can have ones that look and feel great. Custom car mats might not be the originals that were intended for your vehicle, but they can offer so much more and go a long way to making the interior of your car much more unique without breaking the bank.

Why Your Car Smells: What To Look Out For & How to Fix It

There is nothing better than that ‘new car smell’ but sadly it doesn’t last forever. Usually, it isn’t replaced by anything too noticeable, but on occasions you might start to find that there is a rather more pungent odour hanging around your car. So, what is it?

Bad smells in your car are quite common and have a number of different causes. In this article Car Mats UK explain what those smells might be and the best way to try and fix them in order to get your car smelling fresh and clean again.

Musty smells

A musty scent is one of the most common smells reported as being a problem in vehicles. This is usually caused by the appearance of mould or mildew being present in the car. Whilst there can be many reasons that mould begins to grow in a car, it is usually from some form of damp. This could be caused by spillages, accidents from pets, leaks or from the moisture brought into your car on your shoes or boots. This will tend to form in upholstery such as carpets or seats.

When moisture seeps into the fabric of your car and the interior temperature begins to rise, the relative humidity increases. These are the perfect conditions for mould colonies to take hold and grow, and they will eventually start to release that unmistakable and unpleasant odour.

Of course, when it comes to things like this, prevention is often better than cure, so try to make sure you clean up any liquids as thoroughly as possible before the damp starts to set in. However, once it has happened, you need to remove the source as soon as possible and clean it as best you can.

Investing in good quality car mats is one way to keep mould away. Choose some which water resistant in order to prevent things like mould and mildew occurring. These are also really easy to remove and clean, so that you can avoid mould finding anywhere to fester.

Sweet smells

If you are starting to notice a sweet smell in your car that hasn’t come from an air freshener or product that you have used, it could be a sign that your antifreeze is leaking. This could come from a number of different sources in your cooling system, so it is best to take it to a reputable garage to be checked out.

Burning

An unexplained burning smell is never a good thing, but this is particularly true if it is in your car. It could be caused by oil leaving onto a hot part of the engine or by brake pads or rotors overheating. It could also be caused by a build up of leaves or other debris in the engine compartment, so have a look and see if there is anything that can be cleaned out. If you do not find anything, or the smell persists, you should take it to your local garage as soon as possible for a thorough check.

Cigarettes

Many smokers become used to the smell of their cigarettes and no longer notice it, but to a non-smoker, the scent can stand out a mile. If you smoke in your car, then it can be incredibly obvious to anyone else travelling in it, or anyone you are tying to sell it to.

It is tempting to think that smoking with the window open will solve all of your problems, but this can often blow smoke back into your car rather than blowing it away. Once the smoke is in your car, it begins to soak into the fabrics and is notoriously difficult to get rid of.

Start by using cleaning products that have been designed for upholstery to get the worst of the smell out. You can remove thinks like car mats, seat covers and boot liners to clean them and leave them in the fresh air – although in really bad cases it may be better to simply invest in some new car mats.

Try and make good use of the car air fresheners that are on the market until the smoke clears, and make sure that any smoking debris such as ash and stubs are removed.

Petrol

From time to time, there may be the add whiff of petrol that comes floating through your car, and this is particularly common when a cold engine has just been started and will clear after a few seconds. However, if this is still noticeable as the engine warms up then it could be a sign that you have a petrol leak from the tank or fuel line, or that your emissions control line is blocked or faulty. Check underneath where your car has been parked for sings of a leak, and make sure to take the car straight to the garage for a proper check.

Rotting

A rotting smell can be pretty horrible, so it is important to find the culprit quickly. The source of this is often food, particularly if you have small children, so make sure you look in door pockets and under seats for something that might once have been an apple. Rotting is not always food and could also be caused by things such as leaves which have been dragged into the car after a walk and never cleaned out. Good quality car mats can help to prevent this from building up, and as they are easy to clean, they can quickly be removed, and the source can be washed away.

No-one wants to drive around in a smelly car, and it can make it much harder to sell. It is important to remember that whilst things such as air fresheners can make a car smell a little nicer, all they do is mask other scents and do not get to the root f the problem. One of the best ways to keep your car smelling fresh is through regular cleaning and maintenance and by choosing good quality car mats and seat covers that can help to protect your vehicle.

How Long Do Car Mats Last?

Car mats are meant to help extend the life of the interior of your car, but how long do they last themselves? We put our car mats through a lot of wear and tear, so it is important to replace them once they are past their best if they are going to do their job properly.

Here, we take a look at the factors affecting how long car mats last and what you can do to make them last longer.

Materials

What your car mats are made from will help to determine how long they last. Whilst carpet car mats tend to be the cheaper option, if your vehicle tends to get a bit rough and ready then rubber floor mats might be a better choice for you. Whilst not always as stylish as their fabric counterparts, they tend to be more durable and can therefore last longer in heavy duty conditions.

Carpet car mats can be much more aesthetically pleasing, and there are different qualities of carpet for you to choose from. Over time, these can start to sag or fray, but the amount of time this takes can depend on how you care for them.

Usage

Is your vehicle something you spend most of your day in, or something that just does the school run a couple of times a week? How much you use it will be a large factor in how long the mats last. The type of driving that you do will also play a part, as someone who drives long distances might find that the heel pad of their car mat, which seats beneath the pedals, will wear away much more quickly and in different places to someone who drives for short amounts of time or drives an automatic.

Weather

The weather is factor in most things, and it also determines the life span of your car mats. Living somewhere that is quite dry can mean that you drag in a lot of grit, dust and sand which can dull the texture and colour of your mats. Likewise, living in colder, damper conditions can also play its part, as things such as snow, rain and mud will all affect your car mats.

Care

As with anything in life, the way you care for your car mats will have a direct impact on how long they last. If you take the time to regularly clean them, there is a good chance that they will survive a little bit longer. Take them out of your vehicle, vacuum away and any debris and give them a good clean with carpet cleaner or a gentle soap, then leave them to dry away from direct heat and sunlight. This can help prevent a build up of dirt and moisture that can lead to things such as mould and mildew.

Size

A mat that is designed to fit your make and model of car can last a lot longer as it will be less likely to catch on things, slip around or curl at the edges. When it fits like a glove, less dirt can get underneath it and it is unlikely to ride up.

There are no set rules on how long a set of car mats will last you, as a lot will depend on how you use them. When buying new car mats, it is important to look out for those that offer durability and are designed for the kind of wear and tear that you are likely to put them through. This will help them to last longer and avoid you having to pay for new ones sooner than you should.

How to Clean Car Mats

Cleaning car mats can seem like a chore, but we have some top tips to get the best results. Giving your motor a good old clean, is not just about a wipe down of the dashboard. It’s not just keeping the windows streak-free or replacing the air freshener every few weeks. Cleaning car mats and van mats is just as important.

In this guide we’ve put together some tips and tricks to help you get your car mats looking as good as new!

Why do I need to keep my car or van mats clean?

Car mats and footwells are often the dirtiest part of your vehicle. The build-up of water, dirt, twigs and leaves will eventually lead to mould and rot in your vehicle’s interior. Car and van mats are there to protect your interior. But as our Mum always told us: “You need to clean the things that keep things clean!”

Giving your mats a good clean on a regular basis will help to help keep the inside of your car smelling fresh and looking good.

What to do before cleaning car mats

Remember to check your mats – whether they are rubber or carpet – to make sure that there are no holes or rips from general use. Holes or rips can cause issues when cleaning car mats. We would advise replacing any mats that show rips or tears, at the earliest opportunity.

How to clean carpet car mats

A lot of people might not know where to start when it comes to washing carpet car mats, and may struggle to know which products are safe to use on their mats without compromising the durability of the carpet fibres.

There’s a little bit of elbow grease involved in cleaning carpet car mats – but it’s worth it. Carpet mats are likely to take longer to dry than rubber ones. If they don’t need a full clean yet, you could just focus on one particular spot, rather than the whole set. We would not advise washing and drying our carpet mats in a washing machine and tumble dryer. They have a rubber backing, which can get damaged if you clean them in your machine.

Step One: Remove any surface debris

The first step to cleaning your carpet car mats is to remove any surface debris. Get your mats out of the car and give them a good shake, and a whack to loosen the dirt.

Once you have shaken off all the loose dirt, lay your mats on the floor and get your trusty vacuum cleaner. Give each mat a thorough vacuum to get all of those pet hairs, gravel, mud and debris off.

For any stubborn dirt which is really embedded into the fibres, you can use a stiff brush like this one from Chemical Guys to work all of that grit out before sucking it up in your vacuum.

Step Two: Washing Your Car Mats

Now that your mats are thoroughly vacuumed and all the surface dirt has been removed, its time to move onto washing your mats. There are a number of brilliant cleaners on the market that have been designed especially for use on car mats and car interiors. Some great ones worth mentioning are Meguiar’s Heavy Duty Carpet & Interior Cleaner and Turtle Wax Power Out Carpet and Mat Cleaner but you don’t need to go out and buy a carpet cleaner if you don’t want to, you can wash your mats with stuff you probably already have lying around the house!

Mix 2 tablespoons of washing powder with some shampoo and water, and use a brush to work the solution into the carpet fibres. Rinse with clean water and repeat the process if necessary. For any really stubborn stains, you can mix some baking soda with a little bit of water to form a paste. Work the paste into the carpet using a brush, leave to sit for a minute, and then brush off with clean water. Baking soda is also an odour neutraliser so it’s great for cleaning up any food or drink spills and stains!

I know it’s tempting, but don’t put your mats in the washing machine! It might save you a lot of work, but it will damage the rubber backing on the carpet, so avoid at all costs!

Step Three: Drying Your Carpet Car Mats

Once your mats are nice and clean, leave them to air dry. You can peg them on the washing line, or leave them in a sunny spot to speed up the drying time, just don’t put them in the tumble dryer!

…and there you have it!

Your car floor mats will be squeaky clean and looking brand new again! Now I know what you’re thinking; “this is a lot of effort to go to just to clean some floor mats, why should I bother?” Well, have you ever heard that saying – ‘You need to clean the things that keep things clean!’ At the end of the day, your car floor mats are what protect your car interior; if you don’t look after them and keep them clean, then they won’t be able to keep your car interior clean and protected!

Not to mention that the build-up of water, dirt, twigs and leaves will eventually lead to mould and rot in your vehicle’s interior – yuck! Now you know how to clean carpet floor mats, there’s no stopping you – let us know how you get on!

Top tips for cleaning carpet mats

  1. Thoroughly vacuum and/or brush off any loose dirt or debris. The more dirt you can remove at this stage, the easier the next steps will be. Depending on the thickness of your carpet, you may need to repeat this step a couple of times. You are unlikely to get 100% of the dirt off with this step alone, as some bits may be trodden deep into the carpet.
  2. Once the top layer of dirt has been removed, you can get to the real deep cleaning! If you have a carpet cleaner – use it! This is the easiest way to carry out this step. Alternatively, you can purchase carpet cleaning solutions from a supermarket or hardware store. They often come with a brush nozzle attached, like the linked product.

Alternatively you can just use a standard carpet cleaner solution and a suitable brush. You need the brush to work the solution into the carpet. Once you’ve brushed the solution into the carpet, rinse as required.

If you’re cleaning just one particular spot/stain, you can apply your cleaning solution to a cloth and dab the solution on the specific area. Using a clean and dry cloth, dab on the same area to remove some of the excess solution. Leave to dry and repeat if needed.

  1. Once the mats are ready for drying, try to find a nice sunny patch. Lie them down, carpet side up and give them time. Sun-drying helps you to avoid a damp or mildew smell. Please make sure your mats are completely dry before putting them back in the car or van.
  2. If you want to go that extra step, go over your mats again with a steam cleaning vacuum. You can also apply some carpet freshener before vacuuming again with a non-steam vacuum.

How to clean rubber car mats

Our rubber mats have a raised pattern, such as diamond or penny. This helps them to trap and keep dirt and water from running off. In most cases, a good shake of the mats and a wipe with a dry cloth can loosen up, release and remove most of the dirt. If dirt is dried on or being stubborn, you may need to wash and dry your mats a bit more thoroughly.

Top tips for cleaning rubber car mats

  1. To give your rubber mats a more thorough clean, vacuum and/or brush down your mats before applying any water. This will clear off the first layer of dirt and remove any debris.
  2. Once brushed down, use a hose (ideally a high pressure hose) to apply a mild cleaning solution that is suitable for rubber. Use a clean stiff bristled brush to gently work the solution into the mat. This will lift and remove any residual dirt. Take the time to make sure that all the ridges in the pattern have been scrubbed. Alternatively, you can use a clean sponge and warm soapy water.
  3. Rinse down with the hose until all the dirt and cleaning solution has been washed off.
  4. To dry your mats, first wipe them down with a microfibre cloth or towel to remove the majority of the water. Leave them to dry naturally – not in direct sunlight. Leaving your mats in direct sunlight will cause them to fade, crack and become weak. Make sure your mats are completely dry before putting them back in your car or van.

Car Mat Cleaning FAQs

Can I put my car mats in the washing machine?

Please remember, car mats are not suitable for the washing machine or tumble dryer! We recommend hand washing and air drying your rubber mats to avoid causing any tears or holes.

Bonus tip for rubber mats, and a word of warning…

Think first before applying a vinyl or rubber protection solution to your mats. Some solutions will make the mats slippery and unsafe (despite any anti-slip matting you may have). It may also stop water from washing off dirt when you’re cleaning them in the future. If you’re unsure if a cleaning solution will work, please try it on a similar material before applying it to your car or van mats.

How to Make Car Mat Stain Remover?

You can make your own carpet cleaning solution in a pinch! This works especially well if you’re just doing a spot clean. A lot of basic carpet cleaner recipes can be made at home with ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard.* You can also add your own essential oils to customise the smell of your cleaner.

Mix together one tablespoon of white vinegar and one tablespoon of baking soda together to form a paste. Using an old scrubbing brush or toothbrush work the paste into the carpet. Once dry, thoroughly vacuum and repeat if needed.

How to Make Car Mat Freshener?

Mix together two cups of baking soda with 10 to 20 drops of your preferred essential oil. Sprinkle a fine layer of the powder over your mats and allow to sit for a few hours. Give the mats a good once-over with the hoover to remove the baking soda. This should leave your mats smelling lovely and fresh!

So remember to show your mats some TLC on a regular basis! Don’t wait until next year to give them a good clean again!

* If you have a specific stain that you need to remove, please check which of the ‘at-home’ cleaning methods and recipes will work for the that type of stain.

Guide to Buying Car Mats: Which Car Mats Should You Choose?

Last Updated: 15/03/2024

When you choose a car, you will probably think about the make, the engine size and even the colour. You might pick some new personalised plates for it, and even hang furry dice from the mirror all to make it feel like your own.

However, one choice you don’t think about quite as much, but you probably should, is when it come to getting the right car mats. Your car mats are an essential but often forgotten part of your car. They perform an important task in protecting your carpets and keeping the interior of your car looking clean and cared for.

That means that when it comes to replacing them, you need to give it some careful thought to ensure that you get the right ones for you and your car.

Carpet or Rubber Car Mats?

When it comes to what your car mat is made from, you will need to choose between carpet and rubber. This choice might come down to looks, but it should also be decided by the way in which you use your vehicle.

Carpet Car Mats

Carpet car mats often provide a more luxurious aesthetic and feel as they can be found in a variety of carpet types and thicknesses. You can also customise many types of carpet car mat with different colours and trim threads that match your car’s interior.

If your car is simply there for the school run, the commute to work or the weekly shop, then carpet is probably your best option. It gives a lovely, comfortable feel, and with different carpet qualities to choose from, you can always add an extra touch of luxury underfoot.

Rubber Car Mats

Rubber car mats are an excellent choice for those who are looking for something with abit more durability. They can offer a greater level of moisture and mud protection to their carpet counterparts due to the water resistant nature of the material. They’re also extremely easy to clean, only requiring a quick wipe or a blast from the hose pipe.

If your vehicle is used for lots of outdoor adventures or it is a work vehicle that is subjected to muddy boots, dust and dirt, then rubber car mats are your friends. These are incredibly durable, meaning that they can stand up to all sorts of wear and tear. They are easy to clean and offer a practical solution for a vehicle that needs to work as hard as you do.

How to choose the right car mats

With over 13 years’ experience manufacturing Car Mats, we know a thing or two about Car Mats. Here’s our step-by-step guide to help you through the choice of finding the right car mats for your car.

Get the right fit

You might think that all car mats are made alike, but that is not actually the case. Every make and model of car is a slightly different shape, and even these can vary depending on the year that they were made. That means that not every car mat is going to fit every car, and a poorly fitted car mat will not only make your car look untidy, but it can also present some serious hazards.

A car mat that is too big can curl up at the sides or corners, giving you and your passengers something to trip on every time that you get in and out of the car and trap debris beneath it. It can also mean that they run the risk of getting caught on the pedals and could lead to a serious accident if they impinge on your control of the car.

Likewise, if the car mat is too small, it can slip around under your feet. Again, this can create a trip hazard, but it can also mean that your feet are not always secure when you are driving, which could lead to some very serious consequences.

When you shop for a custom car mat, find one that has been made for your exact make, model and year. This will have very specific measurements and should mean that it will give you a snug and secure fit.

Make sure you have the right fixings

Once you have the right fit, you still need to make sure that your mats have everything that they need to keep them in place. Look for mats which have anti-slip backing to make sure that they won’t be moving around once you fit them.

If you have ordered bespoke car mats for your exact make and model of car, then they should come with the right fittings. Some cars will have Velcro, clips or eyelets to help hold them in place, so make sure that the car mats you buy have the right fixings for your car.

Budget

Your car is one of the most expensive purchases you make, and it will continue to cost you money during the entire time that you own it. There will be some expensive items needed at different points in its lifetime, which is why it is important to set a budget when it comes to your car mats. Buying the cheapest might seem tempting, but these will often offer a poor fit and little durability, meaning that you will soon be spending money again on replacing them.

Instead, have a sensible budget in mind and then try to find the best quality car mats that you can for that price. Your car mats are there to protect the interior of your car, and therefore its overall value, so it is worth investing a little in this process to help save you a lot when it comes to sell the car on. Choose quality and durability first and then you should be sure of getting the best value for money.

Choosing the right car mats is an important decision from a safety perspective as well as a style one. You need to make sure that you choose car mats that fit and that work with you and your lifestyle to ensure that your car looks great both now and well into the future, helping to preserve its value and making you feel great every time you get into it.

Personalised Car Mats

We realise that your car mats might not be the most exciting bit of your car, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can opt for a simple grey or black if you want, but there are also some great ways to personalise them too.

You could choose coloured edging, or even have lettering embroidered onto them where you can highlight the make of your car or even your own name. Better still, why not have a picture printed on to them? This could include a picture of the family pet or even your company logo and is a great way to make your car mats completely unique.

The rest of your car can be personalised to match your style, so why should your car mats miss out on the fun?

We don’t just offer exceptional quality car mats that are tailored to fit your vehicle, we also offer you the ability to add your own image to fully tailored car mats or heel pads. Once resized, we send you a preview of how the mats will look for approval. Once you are happy with the preview the order is then sent to be cut, before moving on to be printed and heat pressed. Custom Made JCB Seat Covers

We have recently joined forces with Ridgway Rentals on a custom made project to assist with their improved cab cleaning process. We were tasked with designing and manufacturing a heavy duty washable seat cover to tailor fit a range of their plant hire fleet.

Our managing director and head of design took on the task and rolled up their sleeves to get the measurements for the seats within JCB (pictured above), Hitachi, Hydrema and Komatsu.  With each version of the seat cover, our design team were making the necessary tweaks to give them a tailored fit to every inch of the seat.  The above seat cover is fitted to the New JCB 220X LC Excavator, you can read all about that powerful machine over on Ridgway Rentals website.

Our heavy duty seat cover material is waterproof, fire retardant and machine washable allowing you to continue the clean and tidy look throughout the vehicle. As we have done for Ridgeway Rentals, we can personalise the seat covers with your logo or company name, embroidered straight onto the material giving it a professional look.

Do you know that an estimated 10.1 million Brits have a dog? That’s some muddy paws going in and out of our cars every day!

One of our most popular pet products is our tailor-made car boot liners. One of the worst things for a dog owner is getting back to your car after a muddy walk. We’ve all been there. Do you take your coat off for your dog in the hope they sit nicely all the way home? Maybe you take the hit and book out the next hour returning the interior to its former glory?

With this in mind, you should consider getting yourself one of the most useful pet products you’ll ever buy! Our fully tailored boot liners are the perfect answer. It will keep your car clean from muddy paws! It will also keep your car boot protected from any other dirt and mess.

Tailor-made boot liners

All our tailored boot liners are made from a template of the exact model of the car meaning they fit perfectly into your own car! Our designers are very passionate about what they do. They have thought of everything down to the features that make your boot still functional once fitted.

Not only are they extremely functional, but you can also choose from a variety of colours to match the interior of your car.

What makes these boot liners special

The car boot liner can be supplied as either 1 piece with the floor and sides all bound together. You can opt for it to arrive in 4 pieces. This allows you the freedom to add and remove pieces easily.

Additional features

Adding the drop back & seat split options allows you to fold down your rear seats whilst your boot liner is still in place and it will then cover most of the rear seats when they are laid flat. Selecting the correct seat split will allow the rear seats to be folded down separately. A popular one with dog owners is to add a bumper flap to help protect the bumper from scratches as they jump in and out of the car.

Car Manufacturers Vs CMUK – who wins?

Why shop with us rather than car manufacturers?

You could buy your car mats directly from car manufacturers, but why? When you’re searching for ideal car mats, you want something that’s quality, long-lasting and the best value for money. And if that’s what you’re looking for, then look no further than Car Mats UK!

We’ve had a lot of positive comments and reviews this year already and we’re only in March! But one thing we’ve seen a lot of recently is you lovely people comparing our products. You have been comparing them to the genuine car mats you can buy direct from the manufacturer. It’s great to see how happy you are that you shopped with us, rather than direct with the car manufacturer. So from all of us here, thank you.

This got us thinking about how we try to differentiate ourselves from other retailers and the car manufacturers.

Here’s what some of our customers told us:

“I’d buy from here over a dealer or Halfords any day.”

“Better than the original Qashqai mats I had.”

“No matter what make of car the mats provided, they always fit correctly. They are such a good quality that they are as good, and in most cases better, than the originals.”

We’ve seen some car mats come through our car park in various models. Many didn’t feature the anti-slip backing that our mats do.

Our mats are tailor made to fit your vehicle floor and accommodate your fixing points. They feature our anti-slip backing, which helps provide extra security and support when driving.

If your vehicle doesn’t have fixing points then don’t worry. Our mats still provide you with a safer driving experience than if your car mats were to not feature anti-slip backing. For the price you’d be paying direct with the manufacturer you’d expect something as simple as this to be included.

Speaking of price…we beat the car manufacturers there too!

The price difference is one of the biggest things we hear about from our customers. In disbelief, we had a look on some of the car manufacturers’ websites. We were shocked at the difference in price (don’t worry, we won’t start charging those kinds of prices!)

Our carpet mats start from £19.99 for a set of four. When you buy direct with the car manufacturer you can be paying £60 for their equivalent standard of carpet. Oh, and that’s just for the rears! For £59.99 you can get a full set of four mats in our highest quality carpet. Car manufacturers will sell their top-end carpet mats (just for the rear) for more than £100!

Looking at our 3mm rubber mats, a set of four starts from £32.99. The car manufacturers will charge in the region of £35-£40 for their basic rubber quality. And yes, you guessed it right, that’s just for the rears only!

We hear you!

“These are very good value and fit my Jeep Cherokee perfectly. They gave me a saving of £80 on the manufacturer’s list price.”

“Good value for money compared to buying from main car dealers.”

“At £19.99 for the cheapest set, these are a great deal.”

Tell us more…

While looking at these prices for just the rear car mats – we also found that some other websites are quite difficult to navigate. This is another thing we’ve noticed with some of our feedback. A lot of you have said how easy our website is to work which is music to our ears! We use this same template across our CarMats-UK.comVanMats-UK.comBootLiners-UK.com and SeatCovers-UK.com websites.

“Website is nice and clear. Options are clearly laid out for us to see and pricing add ons were also very clear”

“Website was clear with the options. It made it easy for me to make sure I was getting the right boot liner for my car”

“Easy to navigate website to select required items”

Starting to forget the car manufacturers? Do you really need any more reasons? Ok, well here you go!

Our products can also be customised with coloured trims and embroidery. You also have a choice of carpet and rubber quality, and a choice of carpet colour. You also have a choice of rubber designs and various heel-pad upgrades! This means that through Premier Products you can customise every aspect of your purchase. When you shop direct with a car manufacturer, they won’t give you this. They don’t allow you to have as much choice and control on exactly how your mats will look. Which is fine if you just want standard black mats.

“Love the fact that you can customise it if you wish to. I got a pink trim.”

“Really liked the fact that you can choose different options and colours.”

“Look great in the car. Red border around the black mats looks great!”

Did you know that if you shop with Car Mats UK – you’re buying British?

In recent times we’re seeing a lot more people wanting to buy local and support British industry. Maybe it’s patriotism, maybe it’s Brexit – who knows?! But when you buy direct from the car manufacturer – these products are often made abroad. Whereas ours are made right here in Britain! All of our made-to-order products are manufactured in Robin Hood’s own country, Nottinghamshire.

For every £10 you spend with a British company, it generates £50 for the local economy. So when you shop with Car Mats UK, you’re supporting British industry and can be confident in the quality of British manufacturing.

Car Boot Liners (and mud) are a dog’s best friend!

Car Boot Liners and dogs are man’s best friend. Meet Sam.

Car Boot Liners from Premier Products have saved Sam from getting in to bother after a muddy walk. Sam is a two-year-old Labrador-Retriever mix and lives with Bill. He’s a re-homed guide dog and just bloomin adorable!

After trying his paw at being a Guide Dog, Sam realised that the working life was not for him. Since retiring he has opted for a life of luxury and fun! Luckily for Sam, he met Bill. Bill was a human looking for a four legged friend to join him on his walks and travels across the country. Walks and adventure of course come with a bit of mud – even on sunny days!

With their adventures in mind, Bill decided to invest in one of Premier Products’ fully tailored boot liners for his Audi A6 Avant. Sparing no expense for his new friend, Bill upgraded the boot liner to include all the added extras. The boot liner we made for this pair included a drop back, a 40/60 seat split and a bumper flap. In addition the comfy quilted material means that Sam can truly travel in luxury, just like he always wanted! I think it’s safe to say we hit the nail on the head with this one.

Let’s ask Bill. What was the service like from Premier Products?

“We ordered the car boot liner for an Audi A6 Avant 2017. It arrived on time with correct seat configuration, fitted extremely well and was easy to install. It is well made, waterproof and padded. We have just headed five hundred miles South with our two-year-old labrador retriever in the boot, with no objections from him! I would advise paying the little extra for the bumper guard, as the dogs do tend to use your bumper as a launch pad. It is also extremely useful for sitting on or changing your golf shoes without damaging your car.” Bill

The drop back option means that Bill can fold the seats back. So when he is having a human-only adventure on the golf course, his golfing gear can easily lay in the boot. There’s no need to worry about trying to get it to fit in at an angle because there will be plenty of space. Just fold down the seats and pop it in to have full protection.

What is the benefit of the bumper flap on Car Boot Liners?

Speaking of Bill’s golfing antics: he mentions in his Trustpilot review that the bumper flap is beneficial and really useful. This is not just for Sam jumping in and out of the boot, but also for him to rest on when he changes his golf shoes. This is something that we sometimes forget about when we are talking about the benefits of a bumper flap. We always mention the benefits if you have a dog! But it’s not just our four legged friends that use the bumper, we humans do too! The detachable bumper flap means that if you need a seat while you tie up your laces, the bumper is covered.

Bill managed to get some photos on one of their recent adventures. These show just how important it was for him to invest in this boot liner. Sam gets super muddy on their walks and used to make a real mess of the car. Here is a before and after comparison:

It’s a good job the boot liner is machine washable, Bill because look at that mucky face!

So give our boot liners a ‘paws’ for thought and check out our full range of fully tailored boot liners to protect your boot from any mucky paws.

Do you already have a boot liner that keeps your car clean from fur and mud? We’d love to hear your story! Please send us an email with your order number, some photos and information on your furry friend to support@carmats-uk.com.

Personalised car mats – the latest trend!

Personalised car mats are everything! Car mats don’t just have to be the simple black or grey designs that you see in the footwells of vehicles in a showroom. You can now create a set of mats that feature a picture of your favourite pet, your kids, your car, your house – even your mother-in-law! We don’t judge.

We think personalised car mats are the latest trend in car accessories! So what are you waiting for? You can now scroll through your photo library on your phone and have any image printed on to your personalised car mats. It is that simple!

From photos of your cat to a family holiday pic, the possibilities are truly endless!

Does the thought of having your loved ones with you at all times sound like a dream? Well maybe not, but this could be a good compromise!

We use state-of-the-art printing technology to print your favourite image on to your personalised car mats. We use a process called dye-sublimation to add just about any image to your custom-fit car or van mats.

What is Dye-sublimation?

Good question! This is a process where an image is printed onto transfer paper and then heat-pressed at 190 degrees. This traps and binds the ink directly on to the carpet fibres. Once the mat has cooled, the ink won’t run, even when wet.

Take a look at how we make personalised car mats!

We know, you’re excited. There’s a video! Watch how we make personalised car mats here!

This is a great gift idea for a loved one or maybe a colleague who spends long hours in their van on a daily basis. Why not cheer them up by getting some van mats with their partners face on? Or better still, your face!

Your image only wears out when the mat wears out!

The image is now permanently embedded in to the fabric of your car mat. This means your image is never going to disappear from the mats until they are totally worn through.

The process could not be easier.

  1. Simply add your chosen custom car mats to your bag on our website and then select ‘personalise image’.
  2. We then send you an image of how the mats will look.
  3. You then approve the image or let us know what amends need making.
  4. And that is it! Your new personalised car mats are on the way to you. The hardest part is choosing which image to go for!

Union Jack Heel Pads? Surely Not…

Union Jack heel pads are here! We’ve been working on something a little patriotic…

Union Jack heel pads had to be done! We’re very proud to say that our car mats and van mats are hand made in the UK – We’ve even had feedback from various customers saying how happy they are to ‘buy British’ wherever possible. They are pleased that with us they were able to do that. With that in mind, we’re excited to announce that a new heel pad upgrade is available!

You can now upgrade your standard, luxury, exclusive and prestige carpet car mats and van mats in any of our colours to include a Union Jack Vinyl Heel Pad. This upgrade in amazingly just £8.

The Union Jack Vinyl Heel Pad is heat welded directly to the carpet. It has embossed sections to help create additional grip and protection to the most typically ‘worn’ part of the mat. It’s already proving popular as we’ve had several orders before we even had chance to write this post! Plus, you can still choose an accent trim for your mats to match any interior detailing or the colour of your car if you’d like.*

Don’t worry though – all your other heel pad options are still available. You can still choose to have no heel pad or a carpet, rubber or PVC. Or maybe a personalised printed image heel pad is more you.

Unsure which heel pad to choose? Want to see what they all look like? Check out our gallery to find out which one suits your style the most.

*Please note that the trim will not be stitched around the heelpad itself, the trim will be stitched to the edging of the mats only. Please see gallery images for an example.

It’s birthday time! We’re turning 10!

It’s birthday time and we are already 10! We know, we can hardly believe it either.

It’s birthday time here at Premier Products! As this post is being written we aren’t *technically* 10 yet! Our actual birthday is April 16th but we want to celebrate on a Friday because who parties on a Tuesday, really?

We’ve come a long way in 10 years, our product line has grown and so has our team. We’re still working hard as our catalogue continues to expand and grow. 10 years in the business has far from slowed us down. We have been non stop busy and can’t believe where the time has gone.

Not only has our range expanded but so have our premises as we make space for creating new goodies for our loyal customers.

To celebrate turning 10, we wanted to give back. Not only to returning customers but to new customers as well. So whilst we’re popping open the bubbly and having a slice of cake, nip online or give us a call. You’ll get 10% across all orders between the 12th of April and 16th of April 2019 with code ‘PREMIER10’.

Why not use this as an opportunity to get that fully tailored boot liner you’ve been eyeing up or get yourself some carpet mats to replace your rubber ones as we (hopefully) leave the wet winter months behind and look forward to summer!

Now if you’ll excuse us, the boss is topping up our glasses…

CMUK -vs- Car Manufacturers

Why shop with us?

Why shop with us when searching for the ideal car mats? We’ve had a lot of positive comments and reviews this year already and we’re only in March! But one thing we’ve seen a lot of recently is you lovely people comparing our products. You have been comparing them to the genuine car mats you can buy direct from the manufacturer. It’s great to see how happy you are that you shopped with us rather than direct with the car manufacturer. So from all of us here, thank you.

This got us thinking about how we try to differentiate ourselves from other retailers and the car manufacturers.

“I’d buy from here over a dealer or Halfords any day”

“Better than the original Qashqai mats I had”

“No matter what make of car the mats provided always fit correctly. They are such a good quality that they are as good and in most cases better than the originals”

We’ve seen some car mats come through our car park in various models. Many didn’t feature the anti-slip backing that our mats do. Our mats are tailor made to fit your vehicle floor and accommodate your fixing points. Our mats feature our anti-slip backing which helps provide extra security and support when driving. If your vehicle doesn’t have fixing points then don’t worry. Our mats still provide you with a safer driving experience than if your car mats were to not feature anti-slip backing. For the price you’d be paying direct with the manufacturer you’d expect something as simple as this to be included.

Speaking of price …

The price difference is one of the biggest things we hear about from our customers. In disbelief we had a look on some of the car manufacturer’s websites. We were shocked at the difference in price (don’t worry, we won’t start charging those kinds of prices!).

Our carpet mats start from £19.99 for a set of 4. When you buy direct with the car manufacturer you can be paying £60 for their equivalent standard of carpet. Oh ad that’s just for the rears! For £59.99 you can get a full set of 4 for your car with us in our highest quality carpet. Top end carpet with the car manufacturers for just the rear mats can be in excess of £100!

Looking at our 3mm rubber mats, a set of 4 start from £32.99. Whereas car manufacturers will charge in the region of £35-£40 for their basic rubber quality. Yes you’re right, and that’s just for, you guessed it, the rears only.

“Very good value and fit my Jeep Cherokee perfectly, gave me a saving of £80 on manufacturer’s list price”

“Good value for money compared to buying from main car dealers”

“At £19.99 for the cheapest set, these are a great deal”

Tell us more…

While looking at these prices for just the rear car mats – we also found some websites quite difficult to navigate. This is another thing we’ve noticed with some of our feedback. A lot of you have said how easy our website is to work which is music to our ears! We use this same template across our CarMats-UK.com, VanMats-UK.com, BootLiners-UK.com and SeatCovers-UK.com websites.

“Website is nice and clear. Options are clearly laid out for us to see and pricing add ons were also very clear”

“Website was clear with the options. It made it easy for me to make sure I was getting the right boot liner for my car”

“Easy to navigate website to select required items”

Why shop with us? Do you really need any more reasons? Ok, well here you go!

Our products can also be customised with coloured trims and embroidery. You also have a choice of carpet and rubber quality and a choice of carpet colour. You also have a choice of rubber designs and various heel-pad upgrades! This means that through Premier Products you can customise every aspect of your purchase. Shopping direct with the car manufacturers won’t give you this. They don’t allow you to have as much choice and control on exactly how your mats will look. Which is fine if you just want standard black mats.

“love the fact that you can customise it if you wish to. I got a pink trim”

“Really liked the fact that you can choose different options and colours”

“Look great in the car. Red border around the black mats looks great!”

Did you know that if you shop with Premier Products – you’re buying British?

In recent times we’re seeing a lot more people wanting to buy local and support British industry. Maybe it’s patriotism, maybe it’s Brexit – who knows?! But when you buy direct from the car manufacturer – these products are often made abroad. Whereas ours are made right here in the UK! All of our made to order products are manufactured in Nottingham, England. So when you shop with Premier you’re supporting your local business and your local economy. Studies show that for every £10 you spend with a British company it actually generates £50 for the local economy.

Walking the Dog Day Is here!

Walking the dog never gets old!…

Walking the dog is our favourite thing to do here at Premier Products as we’re big animal lovers. We have 2 office dogs and a lot of us have dogs at home as well. Having a dog is great! Unconditional love for us and unconditional belly rubs for them! It’s a win-win situation for all parties.

You know what else is great?

Going for W-A-L-K-I-E-S.

And today is Walking your Dog Day and the sun is shining (for a change).

You know what isn’t so great though? Muddy paws all over your boot’s interior after W-A-L-K-I-E-S! Or having a pup that’s dived head first into the lake despite asking nicely to not do that exact thing.

If your pooch is anything like our office ladies, they’ll be jumping in the first muddy puddle they see! They’ll be poking their cute little noses into the first hedgerow on your ‘Lead Time’! We love our dogs but we love our cars, so we came up with a solution.

Walking the dog-mud solutions!

We have a whole range of boot mats and semi tailored / fully tailored boot liners available. We can help keep your boot nice, clean and free of muddy paws after ‘Going for a W’.

Boot Mats are a hardwearing solution to keeping your boot clean and dry. They are available in rubber or carpet and you have options! Why not have your dog’s name embroided onto the mat? Or maybe have your name, or something else because they can’t read but they’ll like it anyway!).

Our Multi-Purpose Boot Liner will fit a variety of cars and doubles up as a dog hammock. It’s waterproof too, so no need to worry about your pet inevitably jumping in that lake and getting soaked.

Our Semi-Tailored is a bit comfier for your four legged friend and can be upgraded to include a bumper flap for a little extra protection for when they are jumping in and out of the boot. Available in different sizes and customisable with different coloured materials and trims.

Fully Tailored Boot Liners will provide the most protection against the aftermath of a walk on a rainy day or deep into the woods with the option of customising and upgrading to include bumper flaps, seat splits and drop backs.

So go on. Pop out whilst the sun’s out and take your dog for a ‘W’!

Boxers in your Boot – Fully Tailored Boot Liner for a Peugeot 508 SW

Meet Hector and Noisette

Hector and Noisette are certainly making the most of their fully tailored bootliner in the family Peugeot 508 SW and it looks like their owners like it too:

“I’m so happy with it, it fits perfect! It’s raining here all day, but it didn’t bother me to put it directly in my car hahaha. So proud of this majestic quilted boot liner. Thanks for your fantastic help!”

– Sandra

Looks like The Netherlands doesn’t have much luck with the weather either, but a rainy day didn’t stop owner Sandra from installing the bootliner straight away so that Hector and Noisette can be comfy on their walks – sharing the boot will be a little nicer now!

With 2 boxer dogs in and out the boot on a regular basis, a bit of protection from our bootliner will go a long way for Sandra to help keep her interior in good condition. Just like all our boot liners, this one is hardwearing and easy to install and remove when needed (so that even in the rain it’s a doddle); with options to include seat splits and bumper flaps to add extra flexibility and protection exactly where you need it.

A huge thank you to Sandra for sending us these photos via Instagram, we love seeing our product really being put the test with our four legged friends.
